All protections against illegal search and seizure will have to be waived if we are to be effective.

You think we should repeal the Fourth Amendment?

I still think Netanyahu would be an awesome appointment. The man knows terror and knows the best way to prevent it as much as prevention is possible...

Lieberman's goody bag...

Joseph Lieberman on Immigration

Democratic Jr Senator (CT), ran for V.P. with Gore, ran for president 2004

One-time earned legalization for undocumented immigrants

Q: Should it become easier for undocumented foreign workers in the US to gain legal immigration status?

A: As president, I will create a new one-time earned legalization status, improve family reunification laws, create a work visa program, and partner with the private sector to create a new 'American Dream Fund' to help all immigrants learn English. We've also got to face the fact that immigrants haven't been treated fairly in America since September 11th -- and we can do something about it. When I am president, I will protect the civil rights of immigrants -- right to counsel, timely notification of charges, guaranteed bond hearings, humane conditions, and much more.

Make sure immigrants are treated fairly

Q: How would you encourage those who are eligible to apply for citizenship?

A: I am for earned right of legalization for undocumented immigrants. I'm for temporary worker permits for people coming over. I'm for lifting the cap on family reunification which keeps immigrant families apart and I'm for lifting the cap on political refugees. We're one nation under God, individual, with liberty and justice for all. And that means making sure that our immigrants, new Americans are treated fairly.

Unacceptable to allow Mexicans to die trying to immigrate

Q: How do you separate the good guys from the bad guys? How do you separate the immigrants that come to this country with a legitimate interest in working and contributing and those potential terrorists that are here?

LIEBERMAN: Let me begin by saying this. Immigration for me is not just another issue. It's me, it's my family, it's mi familia. My grandparents came here as immigrants seeking opportunity.

It pains me, and it outrages me that every year hundreds of Mexicans coming to America for exactly the same reason that my grandparents did die in the desert because of our current immigration policy. That is no longer acceptable.

This can't go on any longer. I have offered the most comprehensive, aggressive immigration reform plan. Yes, earned legalization. Yes, temporary worker visas for workers from other countries. Yes, let's lift the cap on people coming here for family reunification or to seek refuge.

Source: Democratic Primary Debate, Albuquerque New Mexico Sep 4, 2003

Notice that Liberman never answered the question about how he'd separate the terrorists from the "good guys," but he'd blow the immigration caps and give amnesty ("earned legalization" is the Democrat euphemism).

He also talked about right to counsel, guaranteed bond hearings, etc. That's in regard to our immigration courts, which can't even handle the current caseload. In many cases we're talking about slam dunk deportation hearings. Lieberman wants to grind that all to a halt.

Lieberman clearly has emotional issues regarding the subject of immigration. That's what anyone would want in a DHS Secretary?

Why don't you go run over and play on DU where you'll be more comfortable.

This site is for Conservatives, in case you haven't figured it out yet.

LOL! In what way have I not been conservative? Do you think anyone from DU would have anything good to say about John Kyl, or anything negative to say about the Democrat governor of Arizona?

"Frank Keating for the post"

He and President Bush were the best of friends it seemed during the 2000 campaign. Then after the President was elected we didn't hear much of anything from the Governor. Did they have a falling out?

Just my opinion, but this job needs a forceful person - not Elmer Fudd. Joe Albaugh is my choice.

You can bet that Gordon Liddy and Oliver North have more on those confirming them, than what could be brought up against them. Just a thought, just a theory.

They both have international images, that I think would make certain elements take pause. IMO, Gordon Liddy may be too over the edge at this point. Oliver North, ONTHEOTHERHAND...

You haven't figured out that being pro-life is central to being a Conservative.

Defending the unborn is the foundation of conservatism, the be all and end all of conservatism.

Protecting the innocent unborn is the issue Conservatives sleep, eat, drink, and breathe.

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. Many, if not most Conservatives would disgree with that rigid and close-minded opinion of what defines Conservatism. As President Bush himself has stated, good people can disagree on that matter. HE made Tom Ridge the first HS czar. You aren't holding yourself up as more important or informed on the Conservative movement than the President, are you???

There have been people who are so rigid in the belief that abortion is the central issue, that they have gone to abortion clinics and murdered doctors in cold blood.

Of course this post is rhetorical, because you never address me directly, for some odd reason. :)

Some of us, but not all of us. Probably not even you.

Do you check to see if your grocery clerk or auto mechanic are pro-life? How about the fireman carrying you out of a burning building, or the policeman preventing that intruder from assaulting you?

I'll bet you didn't answer "yes" for times.

I'm staunchly pro-life, and vote for pro-life candiates when possible, but I also recognize that there are occasions where abortion isn't the paramount consideration, or even relevant at all.

Perhaps Lieberman, his more liberals policies aside, is just a tad too Jewish for certain people's taste?

Lieberman's liberal policies are no worse than that of certain (non-Jewish) RINOs that almost everyone here praises. At least he understands (unlike many or most Dem politicians) that the world is a dangerous place.

It would be fun to watch the left's anti-Semitism come out in full force if Lieberman were selected. My how the leftists would sputter: "But, but, but, he is a J... Je... Jew... no uh, Zi... Zio... Zion... no uh, pro-Israel -- that's it! He's too pro-Israel!"
