VIENNA, Austria - The mysterious illness of Ukrainian opposition leader and presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko was caused by dioxin poisoning that was likely intentional, doctors said Saturday.
Yushchenko has accused Ukrainian authorities of trying to poison him in the runup to a presidential vote marred by fraud. Ukraine's Supreme Court voided the outcome of that vote, which Yushchenko lost to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and a rerun of the ballot is slated for Dec. 26.
Yushchenko first fell ill in September and was rushed to the Vienna hospital. He resumed campaigning later in the month but with a pockmarked and badly disfigured face.
He returned to the hospital later in September for further treatment and checked in for a third time Friday.
It seems that those doctors didn't retract their claims about Yushchenko's poisoning after all; Reuters was the victim of a hoax.
Give me a break; you can't possibly believe that.

First of all, his wife is an American. She is just now eligible to be a Ukranian citizen after 5 years residency.
He could have been just trying to be a man and reassure an already nervous wife.

Then why would she repeat it? This was just a husband trying to reassure a very nervous wife that was desperately worried about an attempt on her life.
She freely says this in an interview, long after this happened.
She "outed" no one.
He was acting like man and trying not to worry a woman with three tiny children, including a six month old and a grandchild on the way.

Yes, I've seen before-and-after pics of him and it doesn't look like the same man--it's like day and scary night.

I heard a very interesting long radio interview earlier today, with someone affiliated with a Ukraine organization here in the US. He is a good friend of one of Yushchenko's people.
Apparently Yushchenko's wife when kissing him hello one evening after he had been to a dinner, tasted some strange metallic taste on his lips. The dioxin had been put in his food. He was sick by the next day or so.
The dinner that he went to? Oh, it was with the Ukraine Security.
