From the posted article:
"As Morrison and another Marine scrambled to escape the blast, pounding against a locked door, Peralta grabbed the grenade and cradled it into his body, Morrison said. While one Marine was badly wounded by shrapnel from the blast, the Marines said they believe more lives would have been lost if not for Peralta's selfless act.
"He saved half my fire team," said Cpl. Brannon Dyer, 27, of Blairsville, Ga. The Marines said such a sacrifice would be perfectly in character for Peralta, a Mexico native who lived in San Diego and gained U.S. citizenship after joining the Marines."
God bless Sgt. Peralta. It would be a travesty if a posthumous Medal of Honor was not forthcoming.
And any other Mexican with the character and bravery of Sgt. Peralta should be welcomed into our Armed Forces and as a U.S. citizen. I hope FReepers remember this naturalized Mexican-American before they paint all Mexican immigrants with a broad brush. There are many reasons why we should stop illegal immigration cold, and why we should have limits on the number of immigrants we let in, but the character of the Mexican people is not one of them.
