>>The reporter just 'sought out' someone he knew within the company would >>would 'go that far'.
>That would mean that the reporter picked the soldiers who would speak. That >doesn't seem likely.
Acutally if you read the email, the reporter DID pick out 'my guys' as he calls them (2 soldiers).
He took them because he heard only soldiers can ask questions, so he took them as 'protection' and coached on of them on the question (he may have agreed with the premise of the question of course)
He ALSO said he sought out the General who was calling on the soliders to try to get one of 'his guys' called on, which he did.
All in the email.

I think some people on this thread have forgotten that the MSM is also the enemy.
I read somewhere early this morning, that this particular unit is in unarmored humvees while in Kuwait. However, they'd were to be flown into a duty station in Iraq and replace a unit that has armored vehicles, they will be taking over these units. This info coming from this reporter himself. I'll have to find where it was that I read this. If so, I'll post a link.

Thanks for your perspective ex 98C. I can't really address whether it's good or bad, although I am very much unwilling to come down on the reporter. There are too many journalists who are truely anti-American or willing to sell their country out for their own gain. I don't think this guy is in that category. My sense is that he has actually bonded with the unit and has developed friendships with these guys
Now FreedomNeocon, why would the person at the mike -- a sergeant, not a general, -- accept the suggestion of the reporter as to who to call on?
