"Shouldn't it be the same with education?" It's like the Army -- it's a completely voluntary decision to enroll, and once you're there you put yourself under someone's authority to further yourself.
One of my professors said with a sly smile early in the semester, "You don't have to worry about taking tests or even showing up, because it's all voluntary. Always remember that. Now, if you want a good grade, that's another story. Just remember that you volunteered for this."

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that the University system makes absolutely no sense. Students pay teachers to educate us, yet they are then allowed to tell us how much we're learning
They are not telling you how much you learned, but how well you can follow simple directions and try to retain something of a lecture. Unfortunately for this girl that would probably interfere with her takingbong hits and daisy trains.
