I think Bob Geldof headed that one up. Judging by Bono's activism in Afican affairs, I can only assume that meeting kind of was the introduction for him into things going on in Africa. I go round and round with folks like Bono--like them or not. For all his pestering us, he genuinely seems to care about what is going on over there and pumps a lot of his own money into it. I do think he's fooling himself if he thinks he can cure what ails them(that was Jesus job and he's not Jesus), but I hesitate to put him in with the other libs who give lip service to human charity. He really seems to carry very deeply about what is going on there.
I think you're right - wasn't that associated with Live Aid, that concert tour from the 80's by a bunch of leftist "recording stars" who showed how much they cared by sending all this food to Africa but had no interest in making sure it actually fed anyone who really needed it? What didn't end up on the black market rotted on the ships in the harbor. But hey, the limousine liberals got to feel good about themselves.
