Since we're on the subject of Pearl Harbor ... yesterday, the 63rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor, our paper did a story on two local Pearl Harbor vets who served in the Navy during WWII. These two vets, didn't know each other at the time and only in recent years became acquainted and became close friends. The story in the paper shows them standing next to a map of the Pacific with places they served circled in red marker ... in addition to Pearl (between the two of them)they had served in the Battle of Midway, Aleutians, Coral Sea, Philippines, Okinawa, etc.. One of the two Navy vets died yesterday (December 7) at age 81 from pneumonia ... a week after the story was written and on the 63rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

Yesterday our local talk radio station did their annual 'lets hear from PH survivors' routine. What was different this year was most of the callers were women - wives & children of service members.

It brought home that there aren't too many PH soldiers & sailors around any more.
