Witnesses: Jury Wrongly Convicted Peterson

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — In tearful testimony, Scott Peterson's (search) family and friends pleaded with jurors to spare his life, contending that he was mistakenly convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci.

Defense witnesses have already testified that Peterson sang to seniors on Sundays, distributed food and clothes in Tijuana and that he was a good friend and loving son.

On the fifth day of the trial's penalty phase, Peterson's relatives questioned the jury's verdict.

"I don't believe he's guilty," said his uncle, John Lathamke to see him die. It would tear our family apart."

But jurors showed no expression, some even looking away or toward the ground as Latham spoke.

Testimony in the seven-month-old trial's penalty phase was set to continue Tuesday and run into the next day before closing arguments. Jurors were expected to begin deliberating Thursday whether to sentence Peterson to life without parole or the death penalty.

Peterson was convicted Nov. 12 of one count of first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Laci, and one count of second-degree murder for the killing of her fetus.

Prosecutors say he smothered or strangled Laci Peterson (search) in their Modesto home on or around Christmas Eve 2002, then dumped her body into San Francisco Bay. The remains of the victims were discovered about four months later a few miles from where Peterson claims to have been fishing alone the day his wife vanished.

Gloria negotiated the book deal.
Gloria would not do anything that would jeopardize the verdict.

Im sure of that Onyz, but if a book deal was negotiated before or during the trial, it "CAN" be grounds for an appeal, no matter who negotiated the book deal on behalf of Amber Frey. Is there a link to the story about Gloria negotiating? I hadnt seen it and if there is a link, Im sure that Gloria would say that now to cover for Amber even if she didnt negotiate.
See, even if Gloria negotiated the book deal, It was still Amber that would make the money off of said book. So it is still Amber not Gloria that will benefit from testifying and taping calls from Scott.

Sure, it is possible the murdering party observed the point where Scott fished to have the perfect "frame"...I have not ever seen any DNA evidence presented in this case or any sign of a murder weapon revealed in the media during this whole thing....the prosecution thinks Laci was strangled or smothered...which was it???...is there not a technical forensic difference? I predict an appeal will eventually overturn this conviction: there are more legal holes in it than Swiss cheese. Somebody was just in a hurry for a hanging. I don't see how any rational jury could convict without even establishing a murder weapon...who paid who under the table? The poor woman could have accidentally drowned swimming while visiting a place on the water the family commonly visited for all we know. Could her death even have been by suicide?

The circumstantial evidence of the cement residue in his boat, the fact that her body (and the baby's body) washed up in a location where Scott Peterson admitted to being. Whether there is hard evidence or not, a jury of his peers convicted him on some very strong circumstantial evidence. That is all that is required.

Actually I'm mistaken. This is the fifth two year old thread about Peterson that you have resurrected.
