Witnesses: Jury Wrongly Convicted Peterson

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — In tearful testimony, Scott Peterson's (search) family and friends pleaded with jurors to spare his life, contending that he was mistakenly convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci.

Defense witnesses have already testified that Peterson sang to seniors on Sundays, distributed food and clothes in Tijuana and that he was a good friend and loving son.

On the fifth day of the trial's penalty phase, Peterson's relatives questioned the jury's verdict.

"I don't believe he's guilty," said his uncle, John Lathamke to see him die. It would tear our family apart."

But jurors showed no expression, some even looking away or toward the ground as Latham spoke.

Testimony in the seven-month-old trial's penalty phase was set to continue Tuesday and run into the next day before closing arguments. Jurors were expected to begin deliberating Thursday whether to sentence Peterson to life without parole or the death penalty.

Peterson was convicted Nov. 12 of one count of first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Laci, and one count of second-degree murder for the killing of her fetus.

Prosecutors say he smothered or strangled Laci Peterson (search) in their Modesto home on or around Christmas Eve 2002, then dumped her body into San Francisco Bay. The remains of the victims were discovered about four months later a few miles from where Peterson claims to have been fishing alone the day his wife vanished.

Geragos could have called her to testify,
but he's not THAT stupid.

That Scott is the only person they saw.

I'm really beginning to get that impression; "something" is there but I don't quite know what it is.

It's like a cult.

Is it me, or does it look like some folks have been watching too many "Perry Mason" re-runs?

or is it "Matlock"?

Not true and discredited only because it was NOT ALLOWED in court.

Ah, it wasn't allowed in court because she was DEAD; but they weren't planning on calling her as a witness -- either side.

It's like a cult.

Are you familiar with "covert incest"? Where a parent puts a child in an equal position in their lives? I swear that is the vibe I get from this group.

Yeah, she's the one who died. LOL!
Guess he couldn't call her to testify,
but her story was dead before she was.

"Anyone ever been on a lake in the same sixe boat as Peterson and tried throwing 100lbs of dead weight overboard?? Cant do it, without tyhe boat tipping.
Why wouldnt the Judge allow that evidence??? Hmmm...He was in a hurry to find someone guilty, thats why...."

With all due respect, such an experiment would be inadmissable as it would be impossible to accurately reproduce the conditions of the actual event. Neither side would be allowed to admit such an experiment. Also, the judge gave the defense WIDE lattitude throughout the case. Nice try though.

The reason I hopped on this thread to begin with was I just happened to hear an update on Fox:

Some witness stated today that Laci beat up his dog and Scott had to intervene. There were audible gasps in the courtroom, I'm sure at the loathsome trashing of a murdered woman.

Lacy remains missing for months and finally most of her body surfaces near where Scott and media claim he went fishing...2 miles away, actually.

I think it would have been too risky for the hypothetical killers to visit the bay for the purpose of disposing the bodies - especially when Police/Press were searching.

What?

Did we or did we not say that if they needed to, they would trash her???

I am stunned.

I am always careful not to judge without proof.

The point I find most amazing in this case as in the OJ trial, is the lack of any evidence produced by the defense of any other facts, leading to another culprit.

If I were Peterson I would have had my own team investigating the crime, to prove his innocence,
but he blew his wad on Gerragos, and is left with a lot of circumstatial evidence poitning to his guilt.

Did you hear about the witness today that told the jury how Laci beat up a dog and Scott had to intervene?! That's why I came on the thread---I heard a very brief report on Fox about this. There was an audible gasp in the courtroom (the reporterette didn't say why, but I'll guess at the trashing of Laci).

Doesn't matter if it was pregame coverage etc. Her interview came off as in error and not credible.

I have given a deposition in a wrongful death case, and let me tell you, they JUMP on the first wrong word or bit of confusion.
