For us Catholics, it's a bit easier to avoid hoping that specific individuals will go to Hell.

Believing in Purgatory, we figure someone could repent on their deathbed, endure a coupla million years of suffering in Purgatory, and still avoid eternal damnation.

What is purgatory? and where is it mentioned in the Bible?

I am a Catholic and Christian. I think Purgatory is wishful thinking. There is absolutely no scriptural refence nor did any of our Lord's teachings. The Bible says that a man dies once and faces the judgement. Heaven or Hell? There is no other place.
