"Republicans are totally destroying their credibility because they constantly spend out the wazoo."
True.
And a severe understatement.
Now there's a man whose thinking I could embrace and support if he was to run for national office.
Can someone fill me in on why GWB supported Specter instead of Toomey?
Congrats. Remember us when!
Wow! nice article! good to see one of our FR own get some recognition.

Hey! Congrats on the great story, Chris. Scranton? I once had a nuclear war going with John Webster of WEZX radio there. But that is a whole other story.

"Republicans are totally destroying their credibility because they constantly spend out the wazoo. We have legislators up on Capitol Hill that spend like drunken sailors and then they try to sell the argument that we need tax cuts," he said. "I think we have to get rid of this old kingmaker system where people in the back room decide who runs. Let's have primaries, let's have the war of ideas. Let's have excitement again where we debate issues. And I think in the war of ideas, conservative ideas win out."Lovely thought, but primaries -- more democracy -- ain't gonna stop the spending, it'll only make it worse. How do you think Mr. Specter kept his derriere in office so long? It wasn't by spending money in ways to offend the voters. He lost it only when he offended those voters with ideas, not when he spent money. The story here is one of politics, not reform.
You have all the energy -- and all the delusion -- of the insurgent and the reformer. Here's what a Gridiron skit had to say about this, so eloquently, so bitingly, back in 1911, when the "reformers" of the day thought they had everyone on the run:
I'll gather you all in ere I have done;Go get yours, but don't push "reform." It's unbecoming of a true conservative.
for every party, as it starts in life,
Is led by a reformer, brave in strife;
And when his cause is won he does his best
To firmly hold it safe gainst every test,
Defending each assault with all his powers.
We're all stand-patters -- after we get ours.
You gotta take the system before you can run it. The lesson of the Toomey primary should not be "how close" but "how far." Power is within, my friend, not without.
What a load of CRAP!!!
Spector did a lot better in the general election in Pennsylvania than did George W. Bush. Spector won the race because he is not as conservative as Bush. And Toomey would have not done as well as Bush because Bush is not as conservative as TOOMEY.
Toomey could not even win a race when the only voters were Republicans. Only a Media fool or rank amatuer could believe that a Republican who could not win a Republican primary could win a general election where Democrats are allowed to vote.
Toomey and Kerry are very similar candidates. Neither understands what it takes to win. Toomey in his primary race against Spector, ran a mostly negative campaign. Kerry in the presidential race ran a negative campaign against Bush. Neither one presented a positive agenda.
Niether Toomey or Kerry ever figured out that a winning candidate has to get people to vote for them.. Only losers try go get voters to vote against their opponent. Toomey and Kerry share a common characteristic. Both are too dumb to win a race against a professional opponent.
interesting
I agree with him there.
