BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma agreed on Monday to hold a new election... this, after the results were disputed over allegeations of widespread fraud. Kuchma's decision is supported by the two rival candidates, opposition leader Viktor Yushschenko and current Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, who was declared the winner.
Kuchma's agreement to hold new elections signals a shift in his position. He's previously supported Yanukovich. At a meeting attended by Yanukovich and other officials, he said new elections should be held for the good of Ukraine. And he warned on television that the country's financial system can collapse within in a few days, if the crisis is allowed to drag on, CCTV.com reported Tuesday.
Leonid Kuchma, Ukrainian president, said, "In a few more days, the financial system can fall apart as a sand house. And neither the President nor the government can not be held responsible for that. Government can't even function normally, as you all well know."
Under the mediation of Polish Congress speaker Jozef Oleksy, Yanukovich also gave ground, agreeing to new elections. Meanwhile, Yushchenko told Oleksy he would agree to several options, from all-new elections to re-balloting in provinces where frauds allegedly occurred.
Attention is now turning to the Ukraine Central Elections Commission, which under Ukrainian law has the power to decide on whether or not to re-organize elections -- despite the fact that the Ukrainian congress has passed a non-binding no-confidence resolution against it.
The country's Supreme Court has ended its first day of deliberations on an appeal filed by the opposition camp, charging vote rigging.

Oops! Maybe not; sorry my bad.
It is a process....
hopefully (and I think they will) this election commission will want new elections and then everything will work out...
even if the one guy (The Russian backed one) wins, if the elections were clean, then they were clean. They have to know everyone and their brother will be watching this time....
Looks like we know the Dems' game plan for the next election. Claim massive fraud and try to get a revote.
Will Jimmy Carter be on hand to certify it this time?
Bump
Are you comparing the legitimacy of the Yuchchenko supporters claim of massive fraud to the legitimacy of any Dem claim?
Good thing we defeated Communism in the Soviet Union.../s
Nope I'm just saying the Dems will see what works and try it here.
NEVADA: JUDGE TO CHALLENGE BUSH VICTORY
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A judge intends to decide Tuesday whether to allow a legal challenge to move forward aimed at blocking Nevada's five electoral votes from being cast next month for President Bush.
Washoe County District Judge Peter Breen said Monday he's considering setting an evidentiary hearing to determine whether there are grounds to keep the votes from Bush - who carried Nevada by 21,500 votes - due to allegations of voter registration fraud and claims some voting machines malfunctioned.

Something's fishy in Ohio (JESSE JAGMO ALERT)

In the Ukraine, citizens are in the streets protesting what they charge is a fixed election. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell expresses this nation's concern about apparent voting irregularities. The media give the dispute around-the-clock coverage. But in the United States, massive and systemic voter irregularities go unreported and unnoticed.
Ohio is this election year's Florida. The vote in Ohio decided the presidential race, but it was marred by intolerable, and often partisan, irregularities and discrepancies. U.S. citizens have as much reason as those in Kiev to be concerned that the fix was in.
Better new Elections than a New War!Fingers are crossed.
They have been moving in this direction for years -- merely a step toward their goal of Soviet-style "elections" here.
That is probably why I see all of those mass demonstrations in Cleveland everyday on my way to work /sarcasm
Bring 'em on.
What's the matter, FO? Afraid the new elections might not turn out like you want? I wonder if the "Russian east" will break quite so heavily for Yanukovich this time around...
This dosen't matter much unless they change the rules about absentee ballots.
