Hi all. Please take a look at MillenniumBug’s posts on this thread. Seems I have myself a bit of a stalker. Not sure why whoever it is chose this thread but I locked it. And MillenniumBug, since I know you will see this the next time you ping me, I’m not sure what your gig is, but I am really not particularly interested in your musings on just about anything at all. Thanks for understanding.

Firefox is one very hot browser, pardon the pun, and your computer will be safer if you switch to this free software that's heating up the charts.
There's been a seismic shift during November, with Firefox emerging as the first credible competitive threat in a decade to Microsoft's aging Internet Explorer browser for Windows.

Turn on their pop up blocker as well as WinXP Service Pak 2's pop-up blocker. See if that stops them. If it doesn't then you'll need to add some other software to get rid of the darn things. I really hate them but I only see a couple a day at the most and that's usually right before an update to the software comes out. I've had it that way for close to 5 years now.
I also don't see much spam. More in the last year than in the past but it's maybe 10 a day at the most and I work at seeing that stuff goes away too. Right now I'm trying to get rid of some stupid mortgage spam and a couple of by prescription meds on line (that will teach me to look for someone's orphan drug to see if I could find a cheaper price for him). Getting rid of the spyware will also cut down the amount of spam you get over time too.

Did you know the support for Windows 2000 expired in June of this year even if you have Service Pak 2. There will be no more security updates or other patches for it.

I'm still trying to get used to the way Firefox does bookmarks... Been using it about a month and like everything so far except the bookmark routine. It appears to me sorting bookmarks into folders is entirely manual, one by one. Am I missing something?

As another Freeper pointed out to me, Mozilla (including Firefox) organizes its bookmarks via entries in single HTML file (instead of a folder containing individual URL files).
Mine is located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.7qj\bookmarks.html
(depending on your operating system - mine is XP).
I guess I can edit the file in order to change their display order - I'll have to play with it.

now that i've got zone alarm re-installed, the error messages have returned:
for example, while deleting an e-mail ad from yahoo:
... ! the operation time out while attempting to contact us.
... f541 mail. yahoo.com.

Treat this problem very seriously.
If your getting that kind of error something is trying to get to to some place on the Internet and it's timing out. That message has nothing do do with email rather access to a location on the Internet. My guess is that you've still got something bad on your system or in the mail that's generating the error that's sending info from your system. It may even have it's own smpt engine. Your firewall is blocking part of it. Probably what it's trying to send to you after you've opened the mail. gotten out. What site is it trying to access. Zone Alarm is probably doing it's job
Send me the URL that it's trying to open, the message itself including the header (that will tell me where it really came from) and I'll see what I can find out. Send it via Freep Mail. You might want to send the same info to Zone Alarm's tech support and see what they have to say.
Download Leaktest from GRC and run it. See if anything gets out. Remember to answer no to answer no when Zone Alarm asks for access to the Internet. If it gets out you have something that's gotten out. Besides the specific programs I recommended get one of the Trojan Hunters from TuCows that allows for 30 days free trial.

That's William Shatner's character on "Boston Legal". I think it's on Sunday nights after Desparate Housewives.
He's an ethically challenged tub of a lawyer who is supposedly losing his memory. He is known for repeating his name with an exclamation at strategic moments...
kind of like he means to cement himself in someone's memory. He's a riot!

I guess this will be a first: Karl Rove will give the Fifth and Patrick Fitzhooey will take the Fifth.
