Hillary Won't Run in 2008
WMAL Radio | 11/29/04

Posted on 11/29/2004 10:17:25 AM PST by carola

This morning on WMAL radio I heard someone, I believe it was Richard Leiby of the Washington Post Reliable Source column, say that Hillary Clinton has decided that she is too polarizing a person to win the presidency in 2008, so she will concentrate on raising money with the purpose of winning back the Senate for the Democrats.

This is a crock, and I don't think even he believed it because he commented on how much she has moved to the center and is cooperating with Republicans. If she had no designs on the presidency in 2008, she would be moving way to the left of Kennedy and Kerry as fast as her little legs would carry her. This is a typical Hillary lie which she thinks will calm anti-Hillary passions while she raises money and make plans for her inauguration in 2009.

There will be a female president one day and I like to think she will be a Republican.

Sooner than you might think, the grooming process is already underway.

Dumping the homosexual platform would win back the conservatives blacks and hispanics who left the fold over the homosexual marriage issue.

Won't happen. The Democrats aren't even making a concerted effort to dump the fringe kooks in their party, what makes you think they'll dump the homosexual platform? If Hillary is nominated, it just means the party wants to continue forcing its way further leftward, because the kook fringe absolutely adores Hillary who's as Liberal as all get-out. Playing down the middle is nothing more than masking and camouflaging her true identity.

But Hillary is far more radical than Kerry. To win, Hillary will have to convert red-staters. That would be impossible.

It's too far out to predict anything.
But as time proceeds I believe the interest in Clinton will fade.

I am worried about that. All this talk of a Frist (who's a good enough guy, but personality wise he ranks right up there with Kerry) or Giuliani scares me.

Our 2008 nominee must be a Governor and something of a "dark horse" candidate that will blow away voters. Someone like Mark Sanford (SC Governor).

She absolutely can't win.

She reminds me of Marley's ghost in A Christmas Carol.

Instead of chains and cash boxes she drags the corpses of those who died tragically to keep the past of this witch covered up!

Hillary has either a) run an opinion poll as a "trial balloon" and figured out that running for the Presidency is a lost cause (i.e. someone on her staff is reading Democratic Underground) or b) is using this information (leaked, of course) to work up sympathy for a run.

I really don't like the idea of McCain. But if he becomes a conservative again I might consider it.

OTOH, a McCain ticket with Mark Sanford or Tim Pawlenty as Veep might be OK. McCain would be 76 in 2012 and likely not run for re-election effectively handing the torch to the VP.

Kerry was a putz and they picked him.

Dean self-destructed and the voters of Iowa picked him which allowed for a snowball effect.

Giuliani should run. For all his faults, he'd wipe the floor with Hillary. Not the most conservative guy (by a long shot!) but hey, what can you do in NY?

Never underestimate the gullibility of the American voter, or the deviousness and rapacity of a Clinton.

Americans in general have short attention spans - they run from the end of the World Series to the Superbowl.

The Clintons have succeeded by their daring, their total lack of morality and scruples, and their ability to gauge the winds of public opinion and alter their external personas to suit them - while remaining the same kind of criminal, socialist, anti-American radicals underneath.

If she does not win her re-election bid in 2006 IMO she won't be able to run in 2008.

No. If it looks like she has a good chance of losing (such as running against Rudy) she would have a listening tour where the people of New York will tell her that she is much too important to be limited to just the senate and she should work on other things for the future. She would decide not to run, even if it is too late for the Dems to run someone else effectively.

"Be careful with your statements/predictions."

I said it ... I stand by it.

No matter what happens in this country or the rest of the world, with the sole exception that we are defeated as a nation by a war of agression by another country, Hillary will never get elected.

By your own sublime addmission, the big donors spent and lost. Even though by too narrow a margin for my likes.

Hillary isn't troubled by an ancient Vietnam war problem. Her history is from right around the corner, time wise, and there is absolutely no way she can run away from it.

GOP women? Ask any woman you know if she would vote for Hillary, and if she isn't a member of some fringe lunatic group, such as NOW, or PETA, etc. etc., they will say not only no, but hell no.

She's toast.

I'm not a Hillary Hater, whatever that means, but I do dislike corruption, socialist principles and an attempt to hide one's true views in an attempt to satiate one's own personal ambition. Eight years of this crud was more than enough.

I see you haven't been around these FR parts for all that long enough to see the threads posted in 1997 and 1998 such as this one (Dixie Mafia).

I guarantee that you read up on Hillary and you'll join the Hillary-Hating Division of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy! ;-)

It matters not. She can't win. End of story.

Not so fast. Hillary may be a polarizing figure, but she is a formidable fund raiser and political organizer who will energize her base. Depending upon the GOP candidate, the state of the economy, and foreign affairs, Hillary could win. She starts out with California, Oregon, and Washington on the Left Coast, Illinois, Michigan, and the Northeast. States like Florida and Ohio will be in play again. The GOP won't have the power of the incumbency the next time around. Unless they can produce a strong candidate with national name recognition, Hillary will be in the catbird seat. I hope Rudy challenges her in NY in 2006.

if people thought Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was effective, just wait for Whitewater Victims for Truth if Hillary is nominated.

I agree that HRC can't win. But I believe she will run anyway because she definitely can't win if she doesn't run. HRC doesn't care about the Democratic party except insofar as it advances her own interests. That is why I think HRC will try to get the nomination, no matter what the eventual outlook is. She would rather run and lose than have the Democrats try and win with another candidate.
