MONTROSE, Colo. - NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol survived a charter plane crash on takeoff Sunday at Montrose Regional Airport, the network said in a statement through its Denver affiliate KUSA-TV.

At least two people — the pilot and the co-pilot — died in the crash, according to the network.

Ebersol and two other people were seriously injured, and rescuers were searching for a person listed on the plane’s manifest whose seat from the plane was missing from the wreckage.

Nice handle there, "Mr. Eckleburg." You draw me in like a green light...

OK, that was bad.

Prayers for Ebersol and his family and everyone involved. Tow-truck driver upon seeing Ebersol said that "he appeared so banged up I thought he was dead."

" How does an entire seat go missing from a plane that never actually left the ground?"

The plane was torn to pieces.

Does the word "explode" ring any bells?

I was wondering WHY they were unable to find the 14 year old son.

That IS amazing..... and I'm listening to Art Bell on Coast to Coast now! Yoi!

I am wondering why, in such a relatively small crash, they cannot find the younger son.

Wonder if the plane was too heavy for the conditions.

I know. I don't understand it either. It sounds as if the brother could see his other brother in the fourth row of the plane and the eyewitness supposedly confirmed that there were two people back there. Why would he be missing?

Throw in some runway contamination and the requirement was for even more runway. I'm thinking - out of runway, airspeed and ideas all at about the same time, and then an abort attempt too late.

It's 3:05 a.m. EST right now. I don't know exactly the time of that crash yesterday, but it has to be at least 12 hours after that small crash. To me it is nearly impossible that this 14 year old hasn't been found. I wonder if he was on the plane in the first place. But, what about the report that his (a) seat is missing? Weird! Very weird.

And the search was being conducted for several hours in broad daylight which in spite of the weather should have been optimal conditions for the rescue teams.

I'm surprised that the information has been so slow in coming forward after all this time has passed.

This is very odd. To me, there is no way they could not find him if he were on that small plane. After all, there was film of rescuers removing the dead passengers, I am amazed they cannot find the other son. And it's odd that you and I seem to be the only ones here who think that this might be odd. Hmmm?

Wondering if the below:

Three men were taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital, where two were transferred to one hospital and the third was transferred to another.

Both of these hospitals were equipped to handle more serious cases, said Nursing Supervisor Linda McCool, who would not divulge their conditions.

"They specifically requested we not give information," she said.

Two of the men were taken by ambulance and the third by air, she said.

and this:

Three passengers were taken to local hospitals, and the Ebersols were then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. A spokesman for St. Mary's refused to say if they were brought to the hospital, but did say two survivors from the Montrose crash arrived there, adding that that no further details were being made available at the family's request.

might explain it? If the survivors may be in as serious shape as it sounds they might be, and the family requesting no more details being made available, they probably do have more as the other poster speculated (remains of the seat or something at this point) and that they aren't anticipating a favorable outcome but were still trying to hold out hope for someone's benefit? (sorry...can't quite figure out how to say what I'm thinking...but I agree with you, it is very odd)

That makes sense............ more sense than thinking that he wasn't on there in the first place.

"I remember the kid was still yelling. He came and grabbed me from the side and said 'Please, my brother is still in the plane. He was in the fourth row.' When I asked him where he was in the plane he said he was in the back row. There was him and another guy in the back row in they very last two seats and they were still alive. Both of them didn't have shoes. I don't know if it knocked them out of their shoes, but neither of them had shoes on."

This is the aspect of the story that I don't understand. I'm not sure where the story was sourced from, but it seems to indicate that one of the brothers was alive in the back row of the plane and the other brother was directing the rescuer to him.

I hope everything turns out OK for the family, but this can't be a good sign if they have had no success locating him after all this time.

And it also strikes me as odd that the tow driver/eyewitness described Ebersol (dad) as so banged up he looked dead, and the Denver paper now saying he was battered and in shock...the latter seems FAR more positive than the intial eyewitness. Prayers for all involved!

Thank you, you are most likely correct. I hope the younger boy is ok, at least eventually.

Me too... Having a friend who survived a crash, and watching how they are still impacted today by it makes me pray even harder. Undoubtably no matter how the results end up, it will be a long road in many ways.
