Ok, I get that part. What is the special significance of the Ukraine "electing" Puti's boy? What are the short and long term ramifications. Other than love of my fellow man, why should I give a #$%?
Keep in mind, I am not being argumentative. I seriously don't know anything about the Ukraine.

It's my understanding...we have a Ukranian exchange student, that one reason many Ukranians are against Yanukovich is because he is a continuation of Kuchma's Iraqi policy. The people are strongly against the involvement in Iraq.
So, there is more at work here than meets the eye regarding the popular rejection of Yanukovich. I don't think it's a simple as east v. west.

How many troops do we have in the Ukraine, by the way?

All the cable stations and CSPIN carried Powell's speech. EXCEPT FOR FNC.

AP:
Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday the United States cannot accept the results of elections in Ukraine, which the opposition says was marred by fraud.
Powell warned "there will be consequences" for the United States' relationship with Ukraine as a result of the developments in the former Soviet bloc nation.
Powell spoke shortly after election officials in Ukraine declared that Kremlin-backed Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych won the election over opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko. The announcement raised fears of violence in Kiev, where tens of thousands of demonstrators have been demanding that the results be overturned.

We know our own exit polls were total crap. Only if you're referring to the raw early round of data (which was only a partial sampling), uncorrected for demographics. The later, adjusted numbers were pretty close. I'm assuming that in the Ukraine, they're basing their assessment on the final exit poll data, as they did in Venezuela.

Like I said bud, I ain't going with any of them. I ain't gotta dog in this fight.
You are pretty rude to another person who voted for Bush, by the way.

Maybe Powell would be better served criticizing CBS and the NYT for interferring in our own election?

Did you know that they were the first and most numerous victims of Stalin's holocaust, the "Harvest of Sorrow,"
i.e., the man-made famine of the early 1930s? It would be a historical tragedy if they were kept in the Russian orbit, especially by a stolen election.

Rusjie soldiers are there becasue the pro-Putin candidate fears Ukrainian troops will not fire on their own people when things get ugly after the fraud comes out.

It's our business when Putin rigs another country's election and sends in Russian troops wearing Ukrainian Special Forces uniforms to enforce the rigged election. He got away with it in Belarus.
