It would have been nice for the US to have been on top of this -- knowing when and where the rally would take place, air bombardment, kill 'em all.

No big deal. The thousands are military types who HAVE to march, or else. Remember the teeming throngs who worshipped Saddam each time he made a public appearance? As soon as the mullahs in Iran go down, the people will celebrate as they did in Romania when Mr. Ceaucescu was killed.

I got into an argument, sort of, with my boss one day about Iran having a lot of oil and that they had no real reason, other than a bomb for building their Nuke reactors.

I had to pull up the CIA World Factbook to show him how many barrels they produce. Oil - production:

3.804 million bbl/day (2001 est.)

Oil - consumption:

1.277 million bbl/day (2001 est.)

Oil - exports:

2.2 million bbl/day (2003)

So wait, let me see if I get this straight. There's been months of protests against the Iranian governement by students and others. Some of these protests have been quelled violently.

Now, there's one Government sponsored protest against the US and suddenly the news agencies are all over it, with epic pictures and a a huge write up? I'm sick of this crap. When is the media gonna get back with reality?

By the looks on the faces of those veiled women lined up with AKs, they look REALLY happy to be there.

"Is it just me or are those AK's without clips?"

This goes directly to Atlantic Friend's post - these guy are supposed tp be representing the "people" of Iran, but no way they're going to give those same people loaded weapons if they're within range. Otherwise we might see what the real will of the people is.

As I look at these pictures the future headlines from CNN and Al Jazeera ring in my head:

"Dozens of innocent men and women killed today in heavy fighting north of Tehran. " Then there will be some sappy quote from an "innocent" paramilitary Iranian about how the US is Satan etc...

Ok, let me get this straight. On one of Irans' borders is a nation containing thousands of US soldiers and marines with the most advanced intelligence and weaponry capabilities ever known. On the other border of Iran resides yet ANOTHER nation, with ANOTHER contingent of that same American military machine. Both of these US contingents have advanced communication command and control capability. Now add that the United States currently embraces what has come to be known as the "Bush doctrine": the pre-emptive use of US military force against any perceived threat to our national security. Also figure into the equation the recent worldwide publicity garnered by Iran for its uranium enrichment program.

If the Iranians had any semblance of common sense, they would be able to compute the result of the equation above; they had better sit the hell down, STFU, and be very, very quiet.

How nice to live in the seventh century, where a rationale response may never be considered. I hope we deal with these ghouls soon.

Another show of force of the Mullah's old guard...

The best decription of the Iranian government I've ever read is: A bunch of rich, white oil men.

Otherwise we might see what the real will of the people is.

Something involving a mullah, a short rope and a long drop, I would imagine.

BUT..BUT...BUT...many on FR says Iran is our FRIEND just because there are a few individuals there that don't hate us.....and therefore that we should not bomb them to the stone age because we might hurt the good people!! That we should let these good guys overthrow the government themselves..and just wait for that to happen..no matter that Iran is about to gain nukes...just wait and be kind a and sweet and "let democracy take hold." YEAH RIGHT! /sarc

Does stupidity get any clearer?

Is it just me or are those AK's without clips?

In the Army in Germany, when the Bader-Meinhoff gang was active, we started walking guard duty with M-16's with empty clips. (They didn't want any civilians shot accidentally, so the perimeter guards went from nightsticks to unloaded rifles.) You couldn't tell from looking whether or not they were loaded.
