Lights! Camera! Agita!Despite monster hits like "The Incredibles" and "Shark Tale," Hollywood is hurting this season, with overall box-office earnings down well below the take in the same period for the previous two years.
In the 10 weeks from Labor Day to just before Thanksgiving, the film industry grossed $1.39 billion, down 14 percent from last year's record of $1.63 billion and off 12 percent from $1.59 billion in 2002.
Fall ticket sales were a bust as well, dropping 18 percent from last year's figure, from 268.3 million ducats to 219.9 million. This year's sales also were below the 222.8 million reported in 1998.
Analysts lamented that the first part of the post-summer season was, to put it in movie terms, a colossal bomb.

The Hollywood Reporter blames a shorter-than-usual season for some of the drop in income. This year's fall season was one of the more frequently occurring 10-week periods, while the previous two years were both 11-week seasons.
But the industry mag concluded the dramatic decline was caused by a combination of bad movies and bad buzz about them.

Believe it or not, a really great "Double Feature" for a very long night at home was Kurosawa's "Ran," and "Stop Making Sense," by the Talking Heads (the movie). Of course, it helps if you really liked the Talking Heads.

The only upside to CSI: Miami are the women: Although if I hear Khandi Alexander call another corpse "baby," I'm going to scream. However, I really like the blonde "ballistics expert!" A beautiful blonde girl who likes guns! Where to I apply to get one of those?!?!?!

It's one of the best "odd-ball" comedies I've ever seen. Great supporting cast too. I think that it's the best thing ever done by the Cohen (sp?) brothers.

Sarandon is definitly poison for any movie.
There is some other movie which is going to have Barbara Stresand, did not catch the entire commercial but whatever it is, it is off the go list.

My 15 year old and her friend went to see PE last weekend. They were bored by it and walked out. From what she told me, the movie strayed far from the book.
There was a post here indicating people walking out on Alexander the "gay" because it was so badly made and sexual content. Can anyone confirm?

Just as the networks have been clueless about HALF the country hating THEIR liberal agenda (even as ratings plummet, they still don't grasp it). Hollywood needs a Fox. A different group of studios and actors that make good old-fashioned American movies. They would make a fortune.
It seems hollywood's conclusion is that there is not enough leftist drivel so they will be producing even more drivel, even more revisionist leftist history, and even more conservative bashing.
Well, the director (Peter Weir) is Australian and the co-writer (John Collee) is Scottish. And the books the movie was based on were written by a Briton. Methinks that they would be able to avoid historical inaccuracies better than the Hollywood types, even if the movie was historical fiction.
let's keep up the pressure...imagine if Hollywood gives a best pic nod to Moore's treasonous Fakenhype9/11...you will see such a negative reaction from Americans towards this industry.
