Kuchma and Yanukovich (the commie candidate) want to cozy up to Russia (Putin). Bielorussion president Lukachenko has already publicly stated a desire to reform the Soviet Union or a Russian empire in some form, Putin is of the same ilk.
Putin is a hardline former member of the KGB and it's no secret he laments the massive loss of territory of the Soviet Union/Russian Empire, the idea is to get all former Soviet states in there, except the Baltic states, he realizes those are a lost cause. Don't be fooled by them, the commies are NOT finished at all.
Of course I always repeating that American shouldn’t idealize Putin cause he fight with terrorism, because of Beslan tragedy or because he supported Bush. He did it only because it was necessary for him and his mafia.
