MY father was born in 1911, so yes my great grandfather was born a serf. Serfdom was gone in almost of all Western Europe by the 16th century. It only remained in Russia, Poland and Prussia into the 18th century.

There are people in USA whose great grandfathers were born as slaves (in America). I wonder what would you write if YOU were one of them? Would you clamor for reparations, claim special victim status? Whom would you vilify as the evil group?

No I wouldn't claim any special benefit. I would expect the fact that Slavery and oppression occured to at least be acknowledged and recognised as fact, and not somehow turned into a boon. Don't tell the descendents of slaves that "hey, they got a free boat trip".
