In what kind of technology?
I don't mean to be a Pollyana, but I'm seriously curious to hear what kind of realistic military threat China poses to America. The most I can come up with is an invasion of Korea, and that itself would be a huge mess that would push China's military to the limits.
The Chinese have had the capability since the early 1980s of putting several fairly massive thermonuclear weapons into cities in the Western US on an ICBM.
However, that would bring massive retaliation that would end the PRC as a functioning society. So that's not going to happen, any more than we had a nuclear war with the Soviets during the Cold War.
Other than that, the answer really is "not much." Unless it's a Tom Clancy scenario where we aid the Russians agains the Chinese in Siberia, we're not going to be fighting a land war against them anywhere.
Despite the frantic hype the PRC Navy and Air Force simply aren't that great.
No ship is absolutely invulnerable, and yes, a Carrier is sinkable, but we've got plenty of those. And destroying one would likely end up with the PRC losing all of their naval and air power-projecting capability in the process.
The PRC is likely to be completely helpless at ASW warfare, and, thus, incapable of projecting power anywhere overseas.
I was not speaking of military applications per se, I was speaking in general IT, high tech prowess. China is rolling in cash. Just because they don't share it with their billion plus people doesn't mean they don't have it. Practically everything you buy today(except food) is made in China, or somewhere in Asia, due to cheap labor. As for high tech, go to any electronics store in Malaysia, and you will see gadgets we don't even have yet. They had touch tone and plasma/hdtv more than 3 years before us. The average American doesn't know this because they don't travel much.
Long range ballistic missiles are being mass produced thanks to super computer technology given to the chicoms by a failed space missile launch. The technology to send a missile into orbit - with a payload -was given surrepticiously to the Chicoms by an american satellite firm who just happened to lose their satellite in China when the chinese provided rocket accidentally blew up and took the payload with it.
This was big news in the Clinton era but is too large for the MSM to stretch their minds around.
They got nukes and possibly ICBMS.
