The Chinese Communists, like their comrades in the former Soviet Union, are not religious fanatics like the Muslims fundamentalists. The Chinese leaders are atheists but, like the Russians, they are nonetheless pragmatic and rational people.
This means that a powerful nuclear deterrent from US and Taiwan should be adequate to keep them in check. If the Chinese communists know that their coastal provinces and big cities like Shanghai and Hong Kong would be razed and their accomplishment in the past 25 years to be eradicated, they will think twice before pushing the attach button.
Therefore, I believe the most cost-effective defense strategy for US would be to arm Taiwan with nuclear weapon and put it inside our TMD (the Theatrical Missile Defence system).
The possibility of Chinese-Russian-European-Islam allianace against US-Israel is real. But this will be Armageddon, and the Lord alone will have the power to deal with that. Most of us will be raptured by then :-)
