At one point in my career, I had the pleasure of being General Smith's intelligence briefer; he's an outstanding leader and true gentleman. I sincerely hope he gets his fourth star and a major command within the USAF or the joint community. Unfortunately, some members of Congress tried to tar and feather him over the Abu Ghirab scandal, and General Abazaid did him no favors by sending General Smith to Capitol Hill as the senior CENTCOM witness.
Wow, now there's some pretty impressive credintials for someone contributing to this thread. Glad to you here. Have you read Tommy Franks book on the war? I would be interested to get your take on the whole effort. One thing isn't in dispute about how the war in Iraq is going - some mighty fine soldiers are risking and sometimes loosing their lives for America. We should always be thankful and grateful and do whatever we can to help them succeed.
