NBA indefinitely suspends Artest, O'Neal, Jackson, Wallace

November 20, 2004
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA suspended Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal and Stephen Jackson of Indiana and Ben Wallace of Detroit on Saturday for taking part in one of the ugliest brawls in U.S. sports history.

The suspensions were indefinite, and the league was still investigating Friday night's melee, which commissioner David Stern called ``shocking, repulsive and inexcusable -- a humiliation for everyone associated with the NBA.''

The league issued a statement saying it was reviewing rules and security procedures ``so that fans can continue to attend our games unthreatened by events such as the ones that occurred last night.''

I can tell you what I mean.

We need to stop this love affair with thug culture and all the irresponsibilities it encourages.

It is decimating the black underclass and has spread everywhere.

It is a plague.

The lower rungs of society have not been brought up in the past 40 years of social experimentation. We have all been brought down...from sports to media to public schools...the list is endless.

There are exceptions but that is what they are...exceptions.

However, I confess to not watching the NBA since Dr J and Dawkins.

Just like the Hurricanes thuggery and prancing killed college football for me.

I don't like punks.

"Here's the best at 81MB."

Best what? Audio? Whooptie-fricken-doo! If I listen real close, can I hear some NBA thug getting whacked with a folded chair?

Steven A. Smith is Spike Lee junior!!! He's a loudmouth jerk.

I turn the channel whenever he comes on.

O'neal never really punched anyone but he did go into the stands.

WHAT??? Jermaine O'Neal threw the hardest punch of the night on the floor and absolutely clocked a fan. It's a good thing that he slid on some liquid or he could have put the fan into a coma.

I'm curious about your remarks about Larry Brown; what did he say?

I usually turn the channel also, but on ESPN there was a basketball game instead of the regular Sportscenter, so I tolerated him last night--

I'm glad I did see him last night, so I could drop my jaw when he came on Tony Snow and do the 180 opinion on who was to blame. Shows he is a shill for league instead of an analyst that can think for himself.

I thought that was Jackson, but I just saw it again on ESPN and it was indeed O'neal. The "fan" was sitting on the floor and not a threat to anyone at that moment.

O'neal should be gone for the rest of the season minimum.

He didn't even get hit in the face. It hit his stomach.

Thanks for the latest. Keep us updated. Personally, I think Gangsta-Hoop will be the wave of the future.

I notice you ended one of your posts with "Go Mavs"-- This might be too personal of a question, but considering your screen name--You wouldn't happen to be a Tickethead would you?

I disagree on that detail, I've been watching it over and over again. But it really doesn't matter ~where~ he got hit with the beer.

I mean spoiled athletes and "entertainers" who think they are outside the law just because they can afford lawyers, and who have no regard for the effects of their behavior. They need someone to teach them responsibility to society, but I guess there is no authority that they respect.

LOL - Dirk Novitzky routinely suffers harder fouls than the one on Wallace. Has he ever retaliated?
