It was Osama's fault! That's the claim being made by former Democratic presidential contender John Kerry, who said that Osama bin Laden's bombastic pre-election video was responsible for his loss to President Bush.
Kerry made the claim during a chance encounter on Thursday with Fox News Channel's Geraldo Rivera in a holding room prior to the processional leading up to the formal opening of the Clinton presidential library in Little Rock, Ark.
Rivera said he told Kerry, "Tough luck, senator," when their paths initially crossed, referring to his election loss.
He said Kerry responded, to the best of his recollection, "It was the Osama tape it scared [the voters]." Kerry added that the tape came out too late for his campaign team to counteract its impact before the election, Rivera recalled.
Former President Bill Clinton, in a recent speech assessing the election outcome, also said he believed Kerry was hurt by the Osama tape.
Kerry's office did not return calls seeking comment yesterday.

No! No! No!
It's Bush's fault!
At least that was Kerrys mindset before he changed it!
John Kerry is the emptiest suit ever to have his 15 minutes of American political fame.
John Kerry is devoid of conviction, and this is the ailment that the DNC in general has to face.
He got his 15 minutes because the Democratic party's focus is on "empty suit" politics.
>"Actually, it was Kerry who scared the voters."<
-absolutely right.
"It was the Osama tape it scared [the voters]."
- This is a "Dog ate my homework" excuse, by F'n sKerry
Bill Clinton is doing the same routine, still blaming conservatives for his [im]moral and [un]ethical legacy.
sheeesh...these guys will never grow up.
Regards
The Bin Ladin tape had no effect whatsoever on the election. Most Americans don't care what Bin Laden thinks. If there was one event that influenced thinking it was the massacre is Russia. It made it very real who we are fighting and why. It also made it clear Kerry was not the man for the job.
"Kerry lies again ...
he never was ahead in any poll average post-labor day."
Kerry was only ahead in Zogby polls.
confused KERRY:
of course I T 'S N O T M Y F A U L T T H A T I T 'S B U S H ' S F A U L T T H A T I T I S B I N L A D E N 'S F A U L T
Translation .. The People didn't TRUST Kerry with protecting their lives and the lives of thier children
Oh and that "counteract" BS .. that wasn't the only tape Bin Laden release ..
Actually Kerry lost because the people who didn't want him outnumbered the ones who did.
Kerry should go get his hunting rifle and kill OBL right away.
So Kerry blames Osama and Clinton blames Starr. That's just what the country needs: leaders who blame everyone but themselves. The Democrats' new refrain: The buck stops there.
Kerry's turning into AlGore before our very eyes. Hill is smiling.
Hey Kerry!...Look in the mirror...you low watt light bulb!!
That stupid Secret Service guy tripped me on the slopes.
No, no. It was my speech writer.
No, wait. It was that damned train conductor who wouldn't stop.
No, I remember: it was all those lies told by the Swift Vets.
No, it was Fox News. And Drudge. And the pajama bloggers.
No, no, no. It was those Republican touch-screen voting machines in Ohio.
No, I know: it was those Clinton-loyalists on my staff stabbing me in the back.
No... It was Osama's fault!
No, there were these big Dobermans on the campaign trail. Really. I saw them.
Right, it was bin laden's fault after all
But ... but ... but ... all the Dem's focus group polling said the tape didn't have any effect on the election.
This is the Leftist mantra. They've chanted it for so long that millions of Americans have begun to believe it--including the ones who made it up in the first place. Fortunately, as the Nov. 2 election showed, millions more do not believe it.
Actually this was a very smart move on Kerry's part. You have to acknowledge his well practiced manipulative skills in order to get to the truth of the matter. Kerry now has everyone on this site and throughout the country believing that he really believes the Osama tape caused his defeat. All the network shows are discussing it and taking issue with Kerry's belief IN THE CONTEXT OF THE OSAMA TAPE. In reality, based on reports of his emotional reactions during his campaign, Kerry actually KNOWS that it was the SwiftVets who stopped his campaign dead in it's tracks immediately after the convention and defeated him. (No major poll gave Kerry the lead AFTER the SwiftVets finally made their mark.) But Kerry hates the SwiftVets for what they did. He could never bring himself to acknowledge their success and he doesn't want others to assign them the credit they deserve. So, he is publicly blaming the tape to encourage negative attacks on his phoney position (Osama tape) in order to suck up all the post-election oxygen that would have gone to giving the SwiftVets the major credit for his defeat. He has lost. The best he feels he can do is to deny his SwiftVet opponents the credit for his loss.
