I think we should deplete the list of the thousands of native-born who are qualified to be president first. They have more of a handle on what America was, is, and what it is supposed to be.
I don't care how good Ahnold looks as a droid saving women folk and kids. I believe he is a gun-control freak under all that macho veneer and has no idea what the spirit of freedom is all about.
Concerning his ability to juggle the books, anybody who has a checking account knows how to juggle the books just as well.

GOPers think this bill is just for Arnold. But if it was passed, the Dems would be right there for Jennifer Granholm.
Passing this bill would let a lot more Dems than GOPers close to the Oval Office.

I've never seen a poll where the vast majority opposed making this change. Of course, public opinion has absolutely nothing to do with our overall immigration policy as both parties routinely thumb their noses at public sentiment, so it would not surprise me at all if such an Amendment passed the Senate easily; the House would be trickier, but I could see it happening.
Fortunately, it would probably not survive the state process as public opinion would be harder to ignore for local, state legislators.
No, not far-fetched. I'm with you -- voted for Arnold for governor, but am absolutely against changing the Constitution to allow foreign-born folks to become president. My reasons:
1. I have full faith and confidence in the far-sighted wisdom of the Founders. If anything, our changed world makes this rule even more appropriate than it was 230 years ago -- we now enjoy longer life spans, easier international travel, instant global communication. If anything, it should go one step further now, and hold that only a second-generation American-born citizen can be president.
2. I realize that many societies think long-term in ways that are absolutly alien to the United States and American culture. Japan and China come to mind, where strategies are planned to take place over spans of 20, 50 and 100 years, not 2, 5, and 10 years. Cultures built on that kind of patience would likely try to place an "agent" or agents to gain power in the U.S.
No doubt they have already tried, but a person born and raised in America is much more likely to be socially immunized against plans for another nation to dominate the U.S. in spite of the "plans" of his or her parents. In my many city immigrant neighborhoods, I see it all the time, where kids of immigrants, even kids born overseas, embrace American culture in spite of their parents' objections. It's heartening.

It's a bad idea. I know we can find examples of foreign-born politicians who certainly have the qualities necessary to do the job, but I think the restriction was put there for a reason. The reason, of course, dealt with the fear that a foreign-born individual may be influenced by the politics of their native land.

Absolutely not. I love Arnold. He's neat. He's cool. He's good and will do great things for California. But...the constitution will not be changed for him nor should it. Maybe when his children are of age they can run for political office of some kind and then work their way up to the Presidency but..Arnold? No way, no how and rightly so. Sorry Arnold...you're a real solid person but...

Hell NO!!!!!!!!!! There is a very good reason for not allowing foreigners to become president of the US.
We have a Canadian socialist for Governor in Michigan, and the Liberals are slivating over the prospect of getting her to run for the Office of President. This idiot socialist has raised every fee in our State and has raised our property taxes in violation of our State's Constitution.
We DO NOT need her in there as President. Again, I say HEEL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
