I think in the new SW game, you can play as either a member of the Rebel Alliance or the Imperial Army. Yeah, and TIE Figher was one of my favorites many years ago. It actually had good propaganda portraying the Empire as supporting peace and law and order.
Executive summary: there's a long history of games that let you play as the bad guy. Civilization has not collapsed as a result.
