That cartoon was DISGUSTING. Making Condi's lips huge....it was definitely racist. And anti-female, reducing a super-intelligent female to a bird sitting on her master's finger.
The cartoon doesn't look that bad.
Bush has now appointed, for the second time, a weaker cabinet member than was in his first term: Ashcroft was stronger and had more presence than the new appointee, Gonzales.
Likewise with Condoleezza Rice replacing Powell. Although I much prefer Condi's politics than that to Colin Powell, this is a bad trend. Both replacements appear to have lesser stature, but more loyalty.
I worry that world leaders may see her more as a smart analyst than a leading stateman (or statesperson in newspeak). She's no James Baker, but I wish her lots of luck.
Hoppy
I find it offensive. Where is the PC police when we need them?
It's both racist and obsence to me.
Condi will be better than Powell ever was. He couldn't ever figure what side he was on. Seemed way more interested in polishing his "great-moderates-in-history" image (with apologies to Rush) than in anything else.
yep.
only people from red states are racists.
btw, where's Olifat from?
he looks as if he walked off the set of "Deliverance"
OINK, OINK! Seweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
And libs are the true enemies. I wonder how long until this becomes obvious to EVERYONE? Seems like forever.
He's originally from Australia, but lives in DC.
What you say is absolutely true....
But she is not fair game to be personally attacked and insulted by a racist presentation such as this cartoon....and if you argue that what you see in this cartoon has no trace of racism you truly are our of touch with reality.
"and if you argue that what you see in this cartoon has no trace of racism you truly are our of touch with reality."
Not sure I see the racism. I see a charicature that emphasizes her hair style and I see her 'parroting' of the party line being parodied. Not sure what the racism is?
And no, I'm not out of touch with reality. I just know that I don't have the right to not be offended and neither do you.
That said, I hope Ms. Rice does a fine job. My only hesitation with her is the sad fact that, as a woman, she'll have difficulty getting respect from the less-enlightened, male-dominated societies in other gov'ts that she'll have to deal with (Iran, N. Korea, China, etc.). If you deny that, then you are out of touch with reality.
for everyone saying they don't see it as a racist cartoon....how much of a stretch is it to believe the media and liberals would freak out at a similar cartoon drawn by a conservative depicting a liberal minority?
So, you believe it is OK to have different rules for the right and the left. I seem to remember Trent Lott and Rush Limbaugh being fired from jobs for much less.
"So, you believe it is OK to have different rules for the right and the left. I seem to remember Trent Lott and Rush Limbaugh being fired from jobs for much less."
If memory serves me, Lott had some unfortunate and probably overblown associations with Klan-like movements. Rush made direct commments about a 'black QB'.
I don't see what's racist about this cartoon. Perhaps you can tell me what is racist about it?
Do that before assuming you know what it is I believe, as your 'OK to have different rules for right & left' has no basis in fact based on my previous post. Perhaps you should change your name to 'Jumps2Conclusions'?
What a disgusting racist pig!
What planet are you on?
Strong women have been heads of state and maintained respect throughout the world for centuries: Queen Elizabeth (she destroyed the Spanish armada...you don'think she was respected?)
Catherine the Great of Russia...You say no one respected her?.....are you kidding?
How about Margaret Thatcher...You don't think she was respected, and I might add feared by many!!!...
No you missed the entire ball on this one....Male dominated society or any other dominated society
You know I'd like to see a political cartoon that shows two Dems standing outside a plantation house(labeled Dem party) viewing the Oliphant cartoon....one of them is saying"except for a few of the 'uppity ones', we've had more success controlling THEM since we came out from under the white sheets!"
