America's combined federal, state and local adult correctional population reached a new record of almost 6.9 million men and women last year, an increase of 130,700 people since December 31, 2002, according to the US Justice Department.

The correctional population of 6,889,800 includes people incarcerated in prisons and jails as well as those on probation and parole. In calendar year 2003, 1,387,269 adults were incarcerated in federal and state prisons and 691,301 inmates served time in local jails. Roughly 12% of the population is hispanic & hispanics make up roughly 12% of the prison population in the US. However, I would be willing to wager that 25% of prisoners being illegals is a pretty close figure for the border states.

....kind of a racist answer. My concern is not skin color. My concern is WHY I have to pay to incarcerate losers from other countries. We in the US have our own fair share of criminals to deal with. Why import more?

No, your answer wasn't that racist. But your question... well it reflects your disappointment of presuppositions. You left it hanging like a sap-sucker grapefruit.

heheheh....nice try....YOU are the one who interjected with "white" eg. race, not me. So my comment about "kinda racist answer" was targeted at you.

My concern is really more monetary based. I'd be happy to house any and all illegals in our prison system, as long as we can make a profit off of it by sending the bill to the country of origin for the perps.
Taxpayers should NOT have to foot the bill.

Perhaps that would be a fantastic growth industry....we can house all of Chinas' prisioners....or Russias'....why limit ourselves to mere "illegals"?
