Copyright restrictions prevent posting the picture from Getty Images, but it shows a riveted I-beam on the side of the bridge. You see the blurry back of a Marine's helmet looking at the inscription. Written on the beam is this:

Looks like he had second thoughts and scribbled out the P.S. and wrote something else instead above it. I can't make it out.
