I'm not sure why Jerry Bailey, or any other jockey, should be forced to be responsibile for other racetrack workers though.
ML/NJ
;-)
They weren't being forced, ans they weren't responsible----they paid nothing for the medical and Workers Comp coverage....the trainers and owners paid it. They (the Jockeys) had no right to complain at all. they were being greedy They changed their mind when the Exercise Riders didnt show up for work for 2 weeks. When they got on 15-20 horses a morning--they got the point. ( the trainers DID pay us for the two weeks---it was in their interest to)
I've never been in a union--and never will be. The jock wanted everything for themselves, even though they spend no money of their own.
Both groups were under a seperate policy because to be under regular comp policies quadrupled the regular cost of a policy
The jocks have NEVER paid for any of their policies, both medical and Comp, in NY---they get it for free.
Dead right!
As independent contractors, THEY are responsible for their policies. just as they were allowed as such to wear advertisements on their riding pants. But they want the benefits oif a Employee in having the medical and Compensation paid for them---something reserved for Stable employees. See my above post about the Excercise Riders
They want the best of both worlds---despite the fact that others pay for it. They don't pay for a thing.
"Where were most of these same jockeys(rhetorical)when they fought tooth and nail with the tracks over the adv. gimmick? Their winning point was that they have always been independent contractors, and want it that way."
