We have a guy pictured standing over a wall taking a shot, and then saying "he's gone".

I agree, that's all we have (did I miss something?). Everybody seems to be agreeing with the reporter's view that he killed someone. I viewed it and it looks to me like the GI fired a shot and reported that the terrorist was no longer there, "He's gone!" He did not say, "He's dead!" He may have fired the shot just to see if the guy was hiding and would either make break or return fire, or maybe he just popped a cap for the shear hell of it. In the video just before that, the GI talking has his back to the same section of wall. Is there something more specific that I am missing?

Exactly. I think the whole thing stinks. He's gone means he's not there anymore. The shot was to cover himself poking his head between the buildings. This one screams to be exposed.

Reminds me of the DMZ in Korea. One day the bushes were moving. We laid some 50 cal burst,....

The bushes stopped moving. Mission accomplished! Let's hit the chow line.
