A man has been charged after allegedly trying to smuggle parrot eggs out of Australia in his underpants.
The 50-year-old man, from Lurnea in Sydney's south, was about to board a flight to Zurich on Friday when he was detained by Customs Service officers at Sydney Airport for a search.
Officers allegedly found 23 eggs hidden in his underpants.
The man was searched as a result of inquiries by the Customs Service and the Department of Environment and Heritage, and was charged with attempting to export regulated native specimens.
A customs spokeswoman said it was not yet known what kind of parrot the eggs came from, or whether the eggs were viable.
"I understand they're in an incubator at the moment," she said.
The Department of Environment and Heritage would assess whether the eggs could be hatched, she said.
The man was granted bail to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on December 14.
The maximum penalty for wildlife smuggling under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act is 10 years' jail and/or a $110,000 fine.
I'd have a Timneh, too, 'cept then I'd be the DIVORCED crazy bird lady on the street! My macaws are very "vocal" (there ARE 36 ways to say 'hello' don't cha know) but are limited in vocabulary. Since we just added a chocolate lab to *their* flock, they are none too happy. I think another feathered member would send them over the edge :)

Speaking of suspicious trouser bulges, there has been a thread running for the past few days about a photo-op picture of Cheney that inadvertently showed more than intended. The picture was promptly yanked by the paper that published it, and the thread was populated by teeming crowds of lady freepers crying out to see the photo.
It's going to be legendary; it went on for hundreds of posts of ribald speculation.
Then somebody posted the picture, and the thread got nuked.

And, how do you know you have a female? I just found out for sure about three years ago when the vet was doing some blood work I went ahead and paid the $60 and had her sexed. I had always thought she was female but with Moluccans, telling males and females apart is nearly impossible.

I have heard 'toos called "Two year olds with scissors".
She's very tame. I've never trimmed her wings, she's never bit me, and I trust her completely to never bite anyone. But she's really bothered by anything new or by something that she doesn't recognize. A camera in her face is one sure way to tick her off. She actually strikes out at it if I get it close enough. Maybe she's just camera shy.
