U.S. military officials said Saturday that American troops had now "occupied" the entire city of Fallujah and there were no more major concentrations of insurgents still fighting. Artillery and airstrikes also ended after nightfall.
Iraqi officials declared the operation to free Fallujah of militants was "accomplished" but acknowledged the two most wanted figures in the city Jordanian terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Sheik Abdullah al-Janabi had escaped the fighting.
But after nearly a week of intense urban combat, U.S. officers said resistance had not been entirely subdued and that it still could take several days of fighting to clear the final pockets.
The offensive against Fallujah claimed the lives of at least 24 American troops and an estimated 1,000 insurgents, and rebel attacks elsewhere especially in the northern city of Mosul have forced the Americans to shift troops away from Fallujah

I would think it was a building by building, room by room,
seeking spider holes and hidden rooms assault. . but I'm
not military so don't know for sure how they do it.
First before it starts they whine of Stalingrad and quagmire, and then when it gets done ahead of schedule they say"what took so long?" and then they wonder why they absolutely zilch credibility.
That was no rant...it was facts.
MSNBC is now reporting in that mission is accomplished.
See daily thread linked above.
I'm bascially a coward at heart. That's why I'm so grateful that there are folks in our militarty who are willing to put their lives on the line for us. And for freedom. But If I could volunteer to run weapons or money to freedom fighters in Iran I'd do it. I always admired the Iran-Contra inaitive. I'm not sure if it was legal or not. But it was brilliant. North gave the Iranians weapons that didn't work. It helped to free the hostages from Lebanaon. North and Casey take the proceeds from the sale of weapons and fund the freedom Fighters in Nicaragua. While Kerry and Ed Asner were celebrating the communists, we were defeating them. Brillant.
And this is the approach we should use in IRan. There are millions of Iranians that want closer ties to the U.S.. They celebrated W's reelection. We've got a great opportunity here. Jim
I think there are just pockets of resistance now, and Fallujah is occupied by our troops now.
Daily thread here:
The clip with Greg Palkott that I saw was live. Had the word up in the top left corner of the screen. That doesn't show up with a tape replay.
Yes, wonder how long before Foxnews catches on that they are not up todate on the new....
They are giving up to the minute reports on Cheny and his hospital visit, and facts on the Scott Peterson Trial.
Greg kelley is reporting that VP Cheny is now leaving the Hospital.....EKG was normal!
It really is dawn in Fallujah now.
GOD BLESS THEM......
These are our sons....
Time for some R&R
I don't think Fox want to make it too complicated for poor cute little Dari Alexander. She is cute, but for a long
time I have muted the TV when she is on. She has no clue how to interview anyone and I just think she gets over her head sometimes.
I noticed on another post that MSNBC was reporting mission accomplished? THAT would not be a good phrase to use in the war anymore. I know the media and dems purposely misunderstood the banner on the aircraft carrier but, I don't think would mind if he never saw that phrase again!
My hero!!!!!! Of course, he just personifies all of our men in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I bet it drives the libs crazy that he has a cigarette in his mouth.
Was supposed to be: I don't think BUSH would mind if that phrase was never used again.
My mind is really moving faster than my fingers today!
I saw a live broadcast..and the resident military expert said it will take weeks to get all the pockets..Earlier today I heard a large battle was going on where we have them trapped..It isn't over.
It does. They have already written articles about the hazards of smoking....What dolts. I guess to them, bullets whizzing by your head isn't hazardous to your health.
The US military is saying Janabi is alive?
