U.S. military officials said Saturday that American troops had now "occupied" the entire city of Fallujah and there were no more major concentrations of insurgents still fighting. Artillery and airstrikes also ended after nightfall.
Iraqi officials declared the operation to free Fallujah of militants was "accomplished" but acknowledged the two most wanted figures in the city Jordanian terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Sheik Abdullah al-Janabi had escaped the fighting.
But after nearly a week of intense urban combat, U.S. officers said resistance had not been entirely subdued and that it still could take several days of fighting to clear the final pockets.
The offensive against Fallujah claimed the lives of at least 24 American troops and an estimated 1,000 insurgents, and rebel attacks elsewhere especially in the northern city of Mosul have forced the Americans to shift troops away from Fallujah

And will this be repeated in other cities experiencing unrest, like Mosul, Samarra, Baiji, Baquba, Tikrit and Ramadi?
Egyptian men get food and water after US Marines of the first Division entered a building in the western part of Fallujah, Iraq (news - web sites), Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. The three men say they could not flee the city as one of them fell ill. The US Marines took them out of the city. If necessary, door-to-door.
Dump 'em at the Syrian and Iranian borders.
Waste 'em all!
Possible, but...
The terrorists weren't inclined to lay low, the fighting was fierce. And I'm pretty sure we went door-to-door in the worst areas.
What's important to remember is that we've siezed a large quantity of their logistics - explosives, timers, etc.; and we've denied them a safe haven. That follows Moa Tse T'ung's dictum.
We (us here at home) should also realize that Fallujah wasn't the end...it is just a beginning of an effort to deny the terrorists all of their bases of operations.
What is 400 x 72 again? lol...
The Iraqis are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
We are there to help.
Many thanks to our troops. If it weren't for them, I don't know where we would be today.
yes.
Got it.
I think the reason they are reluctant to speak of insurgent killed totals is the political side of this. The media and culture of the people over there, isn't very good at accepting what "we" tell them at face value.
They probably don't want to look like they are "bragging" about killings Iraqis even though they are "insurgents".
But we know it is probably a lot more and I have tears of pride and grief in my eyes for our fighting men and women. Whenever they show the fighting on Fox, I marvel at their skill and bravery.
FURY
WAY TO GO!!!
All of their bases of operations are belong to us!???
"But after nearly a week of intense urban combat, U.S. officers said resistance had not been entirely subdued "
Maybe I'm a bit sensitive...but is this writer suggesting that we should have done this FASTER? If we remember Afghanistan, the media gives the impression that the job just isn't be done quickly enough...when the speed of this operation and so many others is absolutely incredible.
With today's media mindset, WWII would have been lost and Hitler in power.
Our Marines, Soldiers, Sailors did an OUTSTANDING JOB; God Bless Them. HHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
