Dear buddyholly,

Your reply to narses was, "John Kerry is a Catholic."

But narses referred specifically to orthodox Catholics.

Mr. Kerry is not an orthodox Catholic. He has been told by the archbishop of Boston, his own bishop, that people who hold his views regarding abortion should not approach to receive Holy Communion.

In fact, there is the view, though not yet officially endorsed, that not only is Mr. Kerry not an orthodox Catholic, but is, indeed, a public and formal heretic, and thus in a state of excommunication latae sententiae.
