I have called and e-mailed Cornyn a bunch because he is my Senator. Just from his remarks, I think he feels this is the best they would get. Specter has been in Senate a long time and I have a feeling he knows where the bodies are buried (so to speak).
If there was a clause in a statement (signed) that said that he would agree to step down, if he broke his promise, it might work. I just don't think we will get him out of chairmanship.
I truly think Cornyn would be one that would vote against having Specter as chairman.

It appears that Cornyn cares more about getting along with his fellow senators than he does about the Texas voters. Perhaps Cornyn would be willing to promise to resign if Specter votes against a pro-life Judge? Why don't you call and ask Monday.
Why do you think that if Spectre broke his word one tme he would not do it again?
When I called Senator Cornyn's office today, I told the staff member that I had read he may vote for Specter, and asked if he would tell the Senator that I said not to. He said he'd pass it along.
He asked me for my zip code, and I gave it. Then I said, "Even though I'm from New York, this is an issue of great importance to the whole country."
I must admit that I sounded like a little wimp on the phone. It was either that or hammer it home - then I don't know what would have flown out of my mouth! LOL! No doubt about it, I need more practice at this phone FReeping.
At any rate, I couldn't help but have the feeling that my call would have counted more, in their opinion, if I was in Texas. It seems to me that Senators like Cornyn have to realize that they are accountable to all conservatives concerning national issues.
That about sums it up.
