So far all they've done is make a lot of noise.

Really now. Then how come Specter is backpedaling and spinning from his post-election remarks, and how come for the first time in his political career he's actually being held accountable?

You do realize that that statistic is miniscule but exaggerated by the abortion lobby, right?

I'm sure you realize (because of the side of the argument you're taking) that the statistic of rapes that lead to pregnancy doesn't matter in the least.

Killing the child doesn't unrape the woman. It adds to her shame. Someone wrote a book based on interviewing rape victims who bore the rapist children. They love their children and the children do not cause them to remember the rape at all - except to redeem it.

The baby is not its rapist father. It does not deserve to die for its father's sins.

Shalom.

Yes, really. The fact that a politician is back peddling is nothing new, the fact that Senate Republicans have done absolutely nothing either way isn't new either.

I'm trying.

How this plays out determines my support in '06 and '08.

It's her child. It's her parent's grandchild. It's a human being just as you are.

Your first two statements are self-evident.

;)

Shalom.

Yes, it is, and I value a woman's right to choose what she does with her body over the rights of a fetus.

The fetus is human and has the same rights as any other human being. Either that, the woman is carrying another species, or the "fetus" has fewer rights under the law. Hmm.. didn't we once fight a civil war over that kind of thing?

Sorry, but I wasn't ordered to go to church as a child and brainwashed on this issue. We went to all sorts of churches when I was young, and were allowed to choose which, if any, we wanted to go to.

Same here- if you think everyone who's pro-life got that way because of religion you need to get out more often.

That aside, those who continue their scorched earth threats should never be taken seriously.

Specter asked for a fight and he got one. Nobody said anything until he opened his trap on Nov 3rd and vowed to fight Bush's pro-life justices, trying to reassure his liberal friends.

Personally I'd rather see Senate procedures bucked than to have Specter as Chairman of SJC. The SJC is too important.

Funny thing about Senators...they're very protective of their institution and priviledges.

Sure, but it will be much much much harder, and don't expect Big Media to help.

Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Spectres', but I will be very surprised if the Senate will buck their own procedures over this.

Then the GOP better start looking for folks to outsource their GOTV efforts to--the usual suspects will NOT bother showing up in 2006 if Specter is the chair. And they'd better solicit more loot from Planned Parenthood--because the money will dry up, too.

I won't vote 3rd party--but I won't go the extra mile for a party that puts a backstabbing hack into a prime position.

Well, you understand what I mean. The pro-abortionists always resort to the "rape, incest, or when the mother's life is in danger" canard when defending abortion. Funny thing is, that these incidents are miniscule.

Cornyn is my senator. I sent him a letter which read in part:

Seniority is a hallowed tradition in the Senate. I expect you'd like to earn some seniority yourself. Figure out a way to deny Specter this chairmanship.

Texas conservatives will be watching your performance.

Yep, and it's a transparent attempt to short-circuit the argument. Generally the pro-lifer will say that those are not reasons to abort the child, and the pro-abort will respond by endlessly calling the person an extremist nut.

Better to just cede that part of the argument and concentrate on the other 99%, or else the pro-abort will never let you get past arguing the exception.

Funny you should mention that organization, they've just weighed in on the Spectre issue as well. Seems they and their people are getting involved in this fight.

Kind of strange how the future of the Supreme Court is becoming so polarized and enraged and not a single nominee has been named.

Institution and privileges mean squat when you're up for re-election facing angry conservatives threatening to stay home or vote 3rd party.

Now there's a new tactic that hasn't been tried. The problem is, it's been over used.

"to have to carry what amounts to a parasitic growth in their body"

See, some of us think of that 'parasitic growth' as a child, and those who think of children as parasites we see as sick and twisted.
