Store Owner Fires Back at Robbers (Texas)
WOAI (San Antonio) ^ | 11/10/2004

Two crooks with guns stormed into a west side grocery store Monday night, but they got a surprise when the store owner took justice into his own hands, pulling a gun on them.

The robbers hit the store on W. Navidad close to 10 p.m. Monday, police said.

“I was coming from the storage room carrying a case of beer, when two guys came in with a gun,” store owner Ernesto Trejo said.

Trejo emptied out his cash register. But he said the robbers then asked for even more money. They took about $150 and a box of cigarettes, but Trejo was determined to stop them.

“As soon as they left, I pulled out my gun,” Trejo said.

“The door was still open and I shot,” he said. Police believe Trejo hit at least one of the robbers. Trejo told police he did not get a good look at their faces because they were wearing red bandanas.

Even though he was robbed at gunpoint, Ernesto says he has mixed feelings about pulling the trigger.

“I hope I never have to do it again, but you have to defend yourself,” Trejo said.

“I need the money, Trejo said. “It's not right for them to come and get the money. They can work.”

Trejo says he is talking to his family about selling the convenience store.

Police have released a description of the suspects. Both are described as Hispanic males in their early to mid-20s. One suspect was wearing a long military jacket or sweater with dark baggy pants. The second suspect wore a dark, short-sleeved shirt.

They were last seen driving a green Chevy Cavalier.

Legal immigrants I'm sure.

hit at least one of the robbers.
Good! At least he left them with a memento of the encounter.

"they were wearing red bandanas"

So much for "Don't pull a gun; just get a description and call 9-1-1."

"but they got a surprise"

How long are criminals going to continue to be "surprised" that Texans have guns, anyway?

"One suspect was wearing a long military jacket or sweater with dark baggy pants".

That just about describes the entire young Hispanic male population.

In San Antonio, probably. The "illegals" in this area are the ones building houses and doing landscaping--too busy working to point guns at people. Its the worthless trash that are actually legal, natural citizens that are so lazy and stupid they have to rob people.

This story should be tracked for the inevitable liberal backlash. After all, if I'm reading it right, they took what they wanted and LEFT, so he essentially shot one in the back. I'm sure that violated the young man's civil rights in some way! And I'm SURE they were legal (they might actually be; their moms probably crossed the Rio Grande while 39 weeks pregnant to make sure their kids were American citizens).
Well, regardless of their legal status, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ACLU fight for the civil rights of illegals who just robbed a store and got shot in the back by a gun-toting whacko neocon exercising that horrible 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and defend himself and his property.

Well here they do both. The police got off their donut sucking backsides, put down their radar guns and rounded up a bunch of Hispanic gang bangers in Gainsville, GA a month or two ago - about 12 of them as I remember. One was in the country legally.

You did see this was in Texas didn't you? You may defend your property in this state even if the perp is running away.

My experience in Dallas has been the same. Most of the illegals are paranoid about being deported so they stay clean. There are plenty of exceptions, of course, but I've encountered plenty of illegals while doing charity work and most are good, hardworking people.

Unless you have a clear-enough shot to KILL, then don't shoot. They may come back.

"Texan shoots robber" is so commonplace that it hardly qualifies as news.

Yep. They are building my house right now, so I've not much of a problem with them. They work hard, are kind, and would make good citizens, which is why I have mixed feelings about strict immigration/amnesty.
