MILWAUKEE - A radio station pulled a conservative talk radio show from the airwaves Nov. 8 as members of the city's Latino community continued to protest its host and his use of an ethnic slur.

WISN Radio's parent company, Clear Channel Communications Inc., said Mark Belling's program would return but did not say when.

He would be great for rightalk. I bet Rush still lets him on his show. Promotion for Rightalk.

Not a big deal imho. You give belling the opportunity to stay on radio.

FWIW

Sean Hannity said Mark Belling would be reinstated soon. Sean said so yesterday on his radio show. Sean spoke as though he had an inside track on Clear Channel doings

Double standard. If Looney Left calls the president a liar, fraud, Nazi, racist, homophobe, bible thumper, etc. it is applauded as "enlightened" and "free speech". Same hypocricy that allows Clinton to get away with banging an intern while the NOW gang fawns over him.

So you live in Texas - what makes you think I don't know?

Especially since I was probably in Texas way before you --- to me, even Texans are called YANQUIS!

WETBACK is derogatory only to ILLEGAL CRIMINALS and I don't give a rats ass about the feelings of ILLEGAL CRIMINALS.

Or did you think I was referring directly to you when I mentioned "leftist-in-hiding" ?? Is there a knee-jerk reaction here?

Political correctness strikes again. Wetback has a meaning, and it is valid when talking about border jumping illegal immigrants. I agree that if wetback is used as a broad generalization of all mexicans, it's just as bad as saying all white people are racist and all black people are criminals. But when calling illegal immigrants wetbacks, the usage is valid.

"wetback" is a slur?
Who'd a thunk it!

Now what can we call all those refugees from Canuckistan that flee north across the Detroit River?

Ive seen a number of other threads on the subject and think that you are the first to "get it" right off the bat. Its not Clear Channel thats the problem, it the local liberals. Im a few miles north and we just lost our morning commentator because he was doing too good of a job exposing local liberal corruption and that station is not a Clear Channel affiliate.

I havent heard the station in question, but if its anything like my local station where Hannity and Reagan are by far the most liberal hosts, then I suspect that Clear Channel is beginning to realize that its just shooting itself in the foot by caving to liberals instead of backing him.

Someone (Randi Rhodes?) at Air America said that "someone needs to take President Bush outside and shoot him" yet the host remains employed and broadcast on America's airwaves.

There is a double standard.

I agree that the host in the article behaved badly. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are still taken seriously the the MSM.

That Sharpton ran for the Presidency and was not lumped with David Duke is telling. Michael Savage played an interview clip with Mr. Sharpton talking about "jewing someone down".

All I ask for is equal public condemnation.

"Wetback" is a derogatory term, no matter who uses it."

Pretty simple fact. I have heard legal Mexican imigrants and those of Mexican descent which are born here to describe the illegal crossers and they have mostly used the term in a derogatory fashion. It's a bit of a status thing.

Rush probably wouldn't even think that term.

I agree with you - it was a stupid thing to say and the guy should have known better. He probably won't be missed.

WETBACK is the term used by LEGAL Mexican immigrants to describe the ILLEGAL border crossers. . . . For the lesser-educated leftists-in-hiding here, WetBack refers to their getting wet by swimming across the Rio Grande (Big River) which lines a portion of the border between Texas and Mexico (a foreign country). . . . a LEGAL Mexican Immigrant will take that as an extreme insult if you call him a "wetback". They know the meaning of HONOR

Worth repeating . . . so I did . . . but we should not forget those of Mexican descent whose forebears lived north of the Rio Grande long before the river became an international border.

I grew up overseas in a primarily military community. Wetback, greaser, you know the list, were all part of the teasing, hazing and sometimes downright meanness. It wasn't right then and it is not right now. The guy should have coined his own word to describe those who illegally cross our borders.

Using the term "wetback" would get almost anyone dismissed. It is offensive and stupid to use.

Not such a bad term for a criminal, really, now is it?

Oh you mean like when the liberals use the term whitey and nazi and JJ and Al S. use the term hyme and they get endorsements from corporations. Hmmm seems like you have a one sided view of things. Or how about when the hispanic who was calling for his firing used the term retard???? Hmmmmm?
I dont hear anyone calling for them to get fired? Its ok for the libs to use racist hate terms I guess.

Maybe, but mud has coattails...we need to be careful.

BTW - If any RT host uses a word like this in a disparaging way, I'd let them go. Depends on the context, that's why I'd like to see the transcript. For example, if he was quoting someone else, that is one thing.

That "portion" being 100%.

It's never a valid argument to say that, because somebody's ancestors were killed, oppressed or defeated, that they have some excuse to break the law, or gain special privledges. This is the same logic people use to argue for slave reparations... makes me sick!

That's the tame stuff. Haven't heard either used in conversation for decades. Maybe the company I keep has gotten better. [smile] Thanks.
