Palm Springs alone has a syphilis rate of 81.8 per 100,000 people in 2003, twice the rate of the nation’s No. 1 city for syphilis, San Francisco. Can somebody 'splain that to me?
How can S.F be #1, if P.S has twice the rate?

SF has a very large population and thus more total cases. PS has a higher rate but less total.

The wording of the article makes it clear that this is mainly a "gay" problem. Every time someone says, "It's not just gays," you can be sure that it is mostly gays.
