Specter voted yes on the nominations of liberals David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer as well as swing justices Anthony Kennedy and Sandra Day O’Connor. In his book, he notes no reservations or objections to those judges as he did with Rehnquist and Scalia.

You actually saw him 'sneer' at Clarence Thomas? I listened to Specter's reasons for his actions in the past on Hannity yesterday. He spoke well. I give him thumbs up for the job.

Bork just wants the law to mean what it was supposed to mean, therefore he is the one who "is unworthy" or "outside the mainstream of modern legal thought".

The extremists are the ones Specter had no problem with. That should be enough to mark Specter as unworthy to hold office or to select judges.
He did NOT vote to Impeach and Convict Clinton.

As for Ginsburg and Breyer, well, I can't say that I like them, but they aren't unqualified (which is not to say that they were the best qualified or most qualified) and sad to say they were the choices of the President.
I'm one of those that belives that the president should be allowed a lot of discretion in his picks to SCOTUS, and only really far out there, unqualified types should be tossed. (THink about it, that's how so many justices nominated by the minority party get there. The other side may not rubber stamp them, but they don't jump on them purely on ideological grounds. At least, they aren't supposed to.)
By the way, SCOTUS nominees have been on my mind in EVERY election that I've voted in since my 19th birthday.

The current court is not conservative, so the fact that he voted for some of its members does not impress me.
Yet the constitutionalists are considered controversial. Spectre & his kind of GOP make me ill with their scrutiny of conservatives and generous treatment of leftists.
Why Hannity, or anyone, doesn't hit Ol' Arlen between the eyes with his swift approval of Ruth Bader Ginsberg when he starts blathering about how disturbing Bork's 'original intent' ideas were is beyond me.

Thomas is black, Spectre is from Penn... any questions ?
Yes, Sen. Hatch is the current chairman. But it is my understanding that when the Republicans gained majority status in 1994, they decided that they would impose term limits on the Chairmen of committees. There is no constitutional reason why Hatch could not remain as chairman.

No, I did not literally see him "sneer" at Thomas. But he does not respect Clarence Thomas as a Supreme Court Justice and he was very hesitant to state that he would support Thomas for Chief Justice.
I do not think we can trust Arlen Spector when he will not face Republican Primary voters for 6 more years. He felt free to oppose Bork in 1987 soon after his first re-election in 1986. He then managed to salvage his reputation with conservatives with his prosecutorial approach to Anita Hill in 1991. After re-election in 1992, he voted for both of Bill Clinton's Supreme Court nominees in 1993 and 1994.
I agree with those who believe that the President's Supreme Court picks should be honored, but Specter has shown a greater willingness to trust the judgment of a President Clinton over the judgment of a President Reagan.
Ok, it seems like Specter needs a time-out.
