Has anyone seen the purple map? NPR said someone blended the reds and blues together, making shades of purple and lavender. That might be interesting to look at.

Here it is. It seems designed to blur the differences, and to minimize the impact of the widespread Bush victory (he got at least 40% support in 47 states, while Kerry failed to get 40% in 13 states.

A better way to illustrate vote strength (2000 election) keeps the Red and blue, with lighter shades for lower margins (white for even), instead of muddying up the picture with purples.

The purple map, plus others, can be found in the link on my post 89. Take a look at the proportional map based on electoral votes.
