Before the discovery of oil and the transformation of the Middle East after the Second World War and decolonization, the Arab countries were a kind of Mecca (if you'll pardon the expression) for European homosexuals.
Paul Bowles is the most famous of these homosexual expatriates, but there are numerous other cases, including apparently Lawrence of Arabia.

In most every sense of logical comparison we see that homosexuality is really a compulsion like alcoholism.
