How absolutely heartbreaking! I knew a lady who accidentally backed over her two-year-old. It just makes you sick with grief...

Very sorry about the two odd lines in the post. I cut and pasted and didn't look closely enough :-{

why would someone want to park in a pile of leaves? after raking them and pileing them up you're gonna park atop them?

Isn't this an awful story? I heard it on our local news this morning and talked to my children about it. My dad almost ran over a baby once when he went to park his car on the side of a road near a group of people having a picnic. He saw something strange in the space and decided to get out before pulling in. It turns out that a mother had wrapped up her infant in a blanket and put him there! I still can't believe anyone would do this!

My parents never let me play in the leaves in the road for this reason. And once I started driving always cautioned me not to drive through a pile (though it's fun and does make a satisfying sort of leaf explosion if you do) because there may be kids in it who don't know better.

So sad...

No harm, no foul ... but this was posted and commented on yesterday.

Incredibly sad and tragic. Hard to perceive God's mercies in this, except that this child is in His arms. God's love can help this dad overcome his grief and guilt. My prayers are with him and his family and the rest affected.

When my husband came home from work last night he told me this news story, he couldn't believe it and wanted to know if I had heard anything 'cuz I'm always on FreeRepublic

I hadn't heard it, but I couldn't believe what he said and I broke down sobbing. I just couldn't stop.

My daughter, when she was younger, used to love to hide out in a pile of leaves to surprise Daddy (never in the street or driveway though).

My heart grieves for his man

This is absolutely heartbreaking. My heart hurts for the father. He certainly will need our prayers and the prayers of others to get through this. May God comfort him and lead him into peace.

The poor kid. And the father will never get over it.

Tragic.

This is so heartbreaking, yes. It really brings into
sharp perspective that there's nothing as important in
life as people, our family, or friends, our neighbors
(relationships with the Lord and people). President Bush
said it when he stated that politics and nothing else is
all really quite low on the list of priorities of what is
real in life.

Prayers for these families, especially for this poor man
who has to be suffering above all; for healing, for the
Lord's help in this situation.

The father is probably suicidal right now. If he doesn't kill himself, he will probably suffer from depression for the rest of his life. He may turn to alcohol or drugs to try to make the pain go away.

I understand that it's natural to try to blame someone in a situation like this. I've done it myself on more than one occasion. As others have said, we do it because we want to assure ourselves that we would never do the same thing. But life is unpredictable and we can't know for sure that we won't end up in his situation at some point.

This man doesn't need to be blamed by us. I'm sure that he is doing just fine blaming himself. His guilt will last him a lifetime.

I pray that he somehow finds peace and I hope that the other little girl survives her injuries.
