Who should Republicans run for 2008?

NOW BEGINS THE NEXT CAMPAIGN

There's no time for celebrating.

There's no time for relaxing.

There's no time to lose.

Right now, beginning today, starts the next campaign – the one to give the American people better political choices in the next election.

Unfortunately, Americans think about politics every two to four years. They think about it when they see political commercials airing or when they get mail from candidates or receive a telephone solicitation.

That's not the time to think about politics.

The time to think and pray and plan and volunteer and work is before the choices are presented to you. Now is the time to determine what those choices are.

It's no secret I wasn't thrilled about the choices we had in the presidential race. In many ways, it was no choice at all. It was the choice between bad and horribly unimaginable. I don't think I was alone.

But, my guess is, that today, most Americans are complacent, happy. They are thinking: "The politics is behind us. Now things are going to be all right."

It's not true. Everything is not going to be all right.

Now is the time to get active. Now is the time to get political. Now is the time to turn the pressure up on elected representatives. Now is the time to start working within the system to build viable third parties and to take over at least one of the two major parties.

Maybe you think I'm nuts. Maybe you think I'm some kind of fanatic. Well, guess what? You have to be some kind of fanatic to be effective in this game of politics. Witness Hillary Clinton.

She is not sitting back relaxing. She is not resting on her laurels. She is not mourning the loss by the John Kerry campaign. She is getting her ducks in a row and preparing a presidential campaign that begins right now.

If you want to beat her, you've got to think like her. If you want to beat her, you've got to beat her with someone. My thought is to beat her with someone really good.

Who should that be?

We've learned there is tremendous power in the Internet. It has become a major tool in the organization of political campaigns. I suggest we start the dialogue immediately. If we have to draft a candidate, we need to find him or her right now. We have no time to lose.

Who is that candidate? Who are our future leaders? Who is being positioned right now to take on Hillary Clinton in 2008? Who is being groomed and refined for that kind of challenge?

Are you willing to leave it to the party professionals? Are you willing to leave it to the political establishment?

This is where the real action is – in finding and positioning the next Ronald Reagan.

George W. Bush told us yesterday he has run his last campaign. Who will succeed him? It's not going to be Dick Cheney. I hope it's not going to be Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who is it going to be? Are you going to sit around and wait to be told? Or are you going to get active in politics right now – starting today – and help make define the choices we will have in four years.

Let's get the dialogue going now. Let's start the debate. Let's start floating ideas. Don't let Hillary claim the high ground. Don't let her have a four-year head start. It's time to find the successor.

Who is it going to be?

Romney, I think he las the looks of a Pres. and the charisma and yes it doies take a certain amount of that. Jeb should not run, I think many would not want a 3rd Bush as president.

Rudy G. and Colin P. Hey, let's run on principles, not "skew"; The Boston Cod and the Breck Girl looked good re demographics. Rudy's a hero to all Americans, and Southerners aren't reflexively stupid about people with vowels at the ends of their names. That sounds like a left coaster's POV on fly-over "hicks". I give them more credit than that. Rudy's got what Bush has; a backbone, a brain, real principles and a clear view of who the good guys and the bad guys are in the world. He might actually deliver New York and New Jersey, too.

Mitt Romney is in a prime position to run as a Republican governor of Massachusetts, assuming Rudy won't do it.

***********

I'd vote for him.

Time will tell.

That we have such a long list of truly qualified Presidential material is the real news.

absolutely. although guliani would have alot of appeal to democrats over hilary, it wouldnt matter because he is pro-choice. a third party nominee will almost assuredly show up that is pro-life if 2 pro-choice candidates are on the ticket. this will suck at least 15% of the vote from the republican candidate which means that with 42% of the vote, the democrat (hilary) will win.

McCain is not a RINO. Look at his conservative rating from the ACU.

McCain is not a RINO, he only plays one on TV.

McCain would win by double-digits nationwide.

So would Arnold, but it does not make him Republican. Big difference between socially liberal Democrat who is fiscal conservative and a Republican.

Tell me more about Pawlenty. Looking at the electoral map the obvious states to swing are Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota (47 electoral votes!). All were reasonably close, and a candidate who could hold the south/west and swing those would be a strong candidate.

Pawlenty is , I suspect, weak on international. Maybe Condi as VP?

What is Pawlenty like?

On a WND poll people are thinking Giuliani should run. The next choice is Condoleezza Rice. Third place they have no one listed. Jeb Bush in fourth place.

Some think Hillary will run and they're trying to think of who would be best to run against her. Who do you think?

I do NOT want Giuliani (as much as I like his charisma and personality) because he is ONLY a fiscal conservative. He in NOT a moral conservative when it comes to life issues of importance to me - and also evidently important to the majority who voted for Bush Tuesday.

I think Condoleezza Rice is not prolife either. Also, she has charisma equal to Hillary's. I think I'd fall asleep during the campaign!

Jeb Bush is a good possibility, but if Hilly runs I think we ought to put another woman against her. I think Phyllis Schlaffly would be tremendously good as I've heard her debate and she is absolutely superb at it. She's calm, cool and collected and pulls the rug out from under her opponent with ease. She would make Hillary or any liberal male look like a powder puff! Schlaffly is extremely intelligent, informed and active when it comes to world events - having worked hard supporting American sovereignty. Check out her views here: http://www.eagleforum.org/column/

She works on the TOUGH issues - her most recent book is The Supremacists: The Tyranny of Judges and How to Stop It.

Schlaffly also has the grace and class possessed by Laura Bush - which Americans so admire. She's dignified and strong.

If the Left is divisive enough to support Hillary's running, then I think Conservatives need to counter with someone just as strong on our end. Let's face it: If they run Hillary, most Democrats will vote Hilly. We will need to run someone who fully reflects not only our fiscal conservative base, but our moral base as well. Guiliani and Rice will NOT represent moral conservatives.

We need to begin working on this now - as Joseph Farah says.

Schlaffly is not only strong on moral issues, she's sharp and effectively active on economic and world issues as well. Her website is: http://www.eagleforum.org/
