Really? You don't say? Half eh? You think I'd have noticed.
Interestingly enough, London is choc full of Aussies these days (had two living next door to me for a while). Most that I've encountered are very nice people. I suppose they must be the more intelligent ones.
As it happens, a friend of mine did emigrate to Oz. Came back after six months. Says he never wants anything to do with Oz again.
I won't tell you why. I'm too polite.
British characteristic you see.
apparently not
Well raise the Union jack over this thread and back to barracks.
Cheers Tony
Freeper action not needed. The British aren't like Greeks, French, or Saudis. The press over there, much like the press over here, is overreaching. Regardless of that, the Brits don't get a vote.
I'm sure most of them are just DUers trying to split the alliance.
LOL! Oooooooooo Kaaaaaaay.
A friend of mine went to live in Sydney and said the Aussies were the most unfriendly bunch of b******s she'd ever come across.
She may have just been unlucky.
We had a powerful Navy but a small standing Army so we were roughly evenly matched.
In fact it was the French who you should thank.
In the First world war without American involvement it would of been a draw which would of been a good thing as then the nazis would never have risen to power. Britain was never under threat
As regards the Second World War
By the time America entered the war the threat of invasion to Britain had long passed.
And if in 1940 the Germans had carried out operation Sea Lion (code name for the invasion) there was a chance it would not work. The German Navy was not powerful enough to land a big enough force and logistics.
The German military was broken in the East, Battle of Moscow , Battle of Stalingrad and Kursk.
Germany new they were losing the war by summer 1943.
If America had not entered the war the most likely outcome would of been A Soviet Dominated Europe by 1947 unless the German officer corp. over threw Hitler, and came to an understanding with Churchill and Stalin, which would of been very likely as with out FDRs backing Churchill may not of pushed for total capitulation and Stalin would have been happy to make a deal
ps
Also its about time you Americans thanked us for holding the line in 1940 and 41 giving you breathing space to rearm.
PPS
Mel Gibsons Patriot. Most favorites bit when the evil British colonel who was wounded was jumped by Mel Gibsons priggish self-righteous all American hero son, and the son was got a sword run through him. My mates and me cheered that scene.
Cheers Tony
We have some good freeper Brits. They have their idiots we have ours.
I'd like to know if this is the British liberal press speaking- as out of touch with the average Brit as our's is- or is this what the majority of British citizens think?
I'd hate to think that the British people my father fought for- and with- in WW2 have become so contemptuous of the US.
Either way, a press( or a people) who have a government that still believes in colonies, has its Parliament dressed from several centuries back and puts up with a Royal family that is morally bankrupt, doesn't have much right to find fault with others.
At least we don't have an heir apparent who is none too bright, had his too-popular wife knocked off, and who wants to be a tampon!
Any Brits who don't like W had best start focusing more on Chuck. Talk about a Royal disgrace!
At least we CAN go back that far.
At least their PM is a real man. Sad most of the rest of the Brits are weak. Sad to see that a once proud and brave nation is reduced to this.
I really think you need to understand what a pathetic rag the Mirror is. It once tried to be the left leaning Sun, then it decided it was a serious tabloid and noticed a niche market to be Anti Bush. They base all their stories on 'Bush is stupid, Americans are fat war mongerers' etc etc and use any British death in Iraq as a political tool.
The Mirror also put the lives of British soldiers at risk with the fake abuse photos and I will NEVER forgive Piers Morgan for that. I'd shoot him for treason, which is exactly what it was.
Britain is still a strong country at heart, although granted we do need to fight the propoganda in the press.
I would ask the more reactionary type posters to realise that Britain is a divided country. But so is the US, the 56 million Kerry voters tells us that.
Actually the count is now 59,369,452
as of 7:33 p.m. on 11/04/04....
Most nationalities can go back that far- or further.
Best if they don't STAY there tho.
C'mon, powdered wigs in 2004?! The Saudis are still in 12th century bedsheets too.
Says something about the inability to progress, IMO.
