Was there a particular reason you didn't make mention of the flag protection amendment?
I'd rather see the energy expended on reforming the tax code and the bureaucracy. With a flatter tax system that didn't require deductions so families could survive, these people would have no financial incentive to "marry" and no court claim of discrimination, however preposterous. The real force promoting gay marriage is our bizarre and byzantine tax code. Change that, and these people will stop rubbing our faces in it.
And the fact is, we have limited time to accomplish our goals -- two years. We should focus on what really matters, and benefits the most people.
This election was too close. We need to destroy any Democratic advantage.
This is not an issue that helps them -- why rush to solve it for them?
I'm with you on all of these, except the ACLU. As I recall, they did help
Ollie North and other conservatives abused under Democratic administrations. What I'd like to see, actually, is a conservative takeover of the ACLU, so that it returns to its focus on protecting us from unwarranted government intrusion. I'll take off my Bob Barr hat here (and I have a bone to pick with him for giving aid and comfort to certain folks) but I don't think I have to swallow every expansion of government power into our lives just because a particular party wants it. Stay pure, baby.
