Forget Florida, forget Ohio, and forget the Upper Midwest. Bush's biggest popular-vote gain are in states where both Gore and Kerry ran the strongest. It is the biggest irony and most unreported (so far) analysis of the popular vote.
I'm not saying that Mother Angelica (heard of her, anyone?) contributed money or made a political endorsement. I'm speaking of the observant Catholic voters, whom I call the Mother Angelica voters. Their support is the cornerstone of Bush's 3.6 million lead in the popular vote. The 2000 & 2004 popular vote margins in the below-listed states are displayed:
NEW YORK: Gore Plurality-1,704,323; Kerry Plurality-1,182,691
CALIFORNIA: Gore Plurality-1,293994; Kerry Plurality-1,023,560
NEW JERSEY: Gore Plurality-504,677; Kerry Plurality-211,826
CONNECTICUT: Gore Plurality-254,921; Kerry Plurality-161,423
RHODE ISLAND: Gore Plurality-118,953; Kerry Plurality-85,626
HAWAII: Gore Plurality-67,441; Kerry Plurality-37,996
Much has been made of the Evangelical Protestant voters. And they certainly made their contribution (particularly in U.S. Senate races). But very few such voters live in these states. Most of the people in these states who attend church every Sunday are Catholic. Clearly, they increased their support for Bush in great numbers. A fair number of them had suppored Gore in 2000. But the combination of partial-birth abortion, stem cell research, and cloning experiments struck these voters as a trifecta of evil, and they responded accordingly. Gay marriage and Ten Commandments displays were also a factor. Militant leftists have tried to use the Democratic Party to impose these policies on an unwilling public, and on November 2, 2004, it blew up in their faces.
Catholic AMEN!

Please say prayers for Mother also, someday she will probably be a saint. Thank you Mother!
IMO, Fr. Pavone had the bigger influence -- though on her network. His shows on political responsibility, his series "The Gospel of Life", the 30 second ads, all have helped to motiviate the Catholic base.
In addition, the work he has done, especially in this election, as a private indivual, reached nationwide.
Together as a team, they, along with some brave Bishops and loyal lay people, delivered the Catholic vote to Bush.
Cordially,
Let's give Mother Angelica's EWTN our financial support to show our thanks. Fr. Frank Pavone and all of the other Priests for Life did an outstanding job in waking up the the conscience of America. Prayers of gratitude for all of them.
EWTN did an outstanding job of "getting out the vote"! God bless you, Mother, and the work you have accomplished through your network.
Catholic Ping - please freepmail me if you want on/off this list
In 2000, Gore got 131,000 votes and Bush got 119,000.
In 2004, Kerry got 131,000 votes and Bush got 161,000.
That is 42,000 new voters for the President with no net new voters for the Democrats. Almost all the new voters I know were Christians, Catholic or evangelical.
Gore carried NJ by 16 points and 505,000 votes.
Kerry carried NJ by 4 points and 140,000 votes.
Although we couldn't capture NJ we came much closer than anyone thought.
Fr. Frank Pavone has been a tireless advocate for the unborn! May God continue to bless him and open the hearts of the abortionists.
She did, even on tape. God bless her and EWTN.
Hundreds of new votes were generated from registrations at one Presbyterian congregation and St. Catherine Laboure parish alone - the first is a Bible-believing congregation and the latter is a traditional Latin Mass parish affiliated with the Diocese of Trenton.
Let's hope these Catholics stay on the "right" side for now on now!

Being a drunk and high college student I nicknamed her "Big Cross Lady."
And for comparison purposes, those 2000 pluralities should be multiplied by 125%, the ratio of total voters in 2004 over 2000.
Also, Catholic Answers and their Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics. They took out full page ads in USA Today.
