"In 1982, former Glen Cove Mayor Alan Parente banned Russians from local beaches because he read they were using a weekend estate in Glen Cove, Killenworth, for electronic spying.
When Suozzi -who was mayor from 1973 to 1979 -returned to office in 1984, he lifted the ban. Suozzi was maligned by colleagues for his actions. Peter King, former Nassau County treasure, asked Suozzi in 1987 how his "Commie friends" were. He later said he was kidding, Newsday reported."
VENICE, Fla. - At a Veterans Day ceremony a week ago, Englewood kindergartner Kyle Frost proudly held a picture of his uncle, U.S. Marine Dale Burger Jr.
The picture appeared in the Herald-Tribune and was picked up by wire services used by news organizations across the country.
Monday, 5-year-old Kyle learned that he would never get to know his uncle beyond the solemn face in the photograph. Cpl. Dale Burger Jr., 21, a native of Maryland, was shot in the head and killed Sunday during combat against Iraqi insurgents in Al Anbar Province, which includes the war-torn cities of Fallujah and Ramadi.
When I told Kyle, he sort of understood, Lynn Frost, Burgers sister, said Tuesday. He said he wanted Dale to come back and play. Then Kyle just ran into the other room and cried."
